Only one-in-five voters believe that Rishi Sunak can win the next general election
  • 6 months ago
New polling from Ipsos shows half the public think it is likely that Keir Starmer will become Prime Minister. Only one in four say the opposite.

These latest numbers show even a majority of 2019 Conservative voters are predicting that Keir Starmer will enter Number 10. The recent upside poll revealed 37% believe Keir Starmer has improved the Labour party, while 37% see no change, and 16% feel he's made it worse. Only 22% think Rishi Sunak will win the next General Election, with 63% doubting his chances.

Confidence in Sunak's electoral ability is at its lowest since he became Prime Minister, down from 27% a year ago. In comparison, Liz Truss had 13% support in October 2023, while Boris Johnson had 30% in June 2022. As Conservative leader, 41% believe Sunak has made no difference, 30% think he's changed it for the worse, and 20% for the better.
