00:14 I thank the gentleman for yielding, and I rise in strong support of this resolution
00:19 to support one of the closest allies in the world and partners, Israel, as she defends
00:25 herself against terrorist attacks.
00:28 I thank Chairman McCaul for his leadership in bringing this to the floor, as well as
00:33 Ranking Member Meeks for their leadership working together, crafting this resounding
00:39 statement of support and doing so in a unifying, bipartisan way.
00:47 The Speaker, on October 7th, we watched in horror as Hamas terrorists unleashed a brutal
00:53 assault on Israel's families and slaughtered – we've gone into some of the detail of
01:01 the brutality of it all, outside the circle of civilized human behavior.
01:06 Brutality.
01:08 The attacks were horrible.
01:11 With this resolution, the United States Congress resoundingly declares our support for Israel,
01:17 not with revenge, but with justice, that justice will be done.
01:22 And in doing so, we continue to remain concerned about the humanitarian situation in Gaza,
01:27 with civilians caught in the middle of the war.
01:29 I echo Secretary Blinken's call for a humanitarian pause so that innocent lives can be saved.
01:36 Eighty years ago, Mr. Speaker, on the floor of this House, my father, as a member of Congress,
01:41 Thomas D'Alessandro from Maryland, called upon the Roosevelt administration to support
01:47 the establishment of a state of Israel in what was known as Palestine at the time.
01:53 He was early in calling for that.
01:56 So it's in my DNA to protect that state of Israel.
02:01 Hamas is dedicated to the destruction of the state of Israel.
02:07 Hamas has been declared a terrorist organization by the United States.
02:15 Hamas must be destroyed.
02:18 But in destroying them, we must protect the children in Gaza.
02:23 They use them as shields.
02:25 We want to protect them.
02:27 So this resolution, in overwhelming bipartisan support on the floor of the House, is so necessary.
02:34 I urge a unanimous vote.
02:36 And thank the chairman and ranking member for their leadership.
