Vegemite celebrates 100 years

Iconic Aussie spread Vegemite has celebrated its 100th birthday at its home in Port Melbourne, VIC.

00:02 - It's fantastic to be here to celebrate

00:09 Vegemite's 100 years, and particularly at the home

00:12 of Vegemite where the product's made.

00:15 And obviously we've had a series of celebrations

00:17 and a series of promotions, but today's the big day

00:20 where we bring everybody together to actually celebrate

00:22 the 100 years of what is an Australian iconic brand.

00:26 I think the thing that stands out for me

00:28 is that Vegemite's constant presence in Australians' lives.

00:32 And that can stand out from even the stories

00:35 of diggers taking Vegemite to war with them

00:38 right through to people today making sure

00:40 that they take the squeezy pack of Vegemite with them

00:43 as they travel overseas.

00:44 So I think it's more that it's such a constant

00:47 in Australians' life and so loved.

00:49 And most Australians will still sing the jingle

00:52 and love the story of Vegemite.

00:56 Sitting at that Vegemite table eating the toast

00:59 and then to be in the remake of that twice in a lifetime

01:02 is really beyond my wildest imagination.

01:05 So all the memories are wonderful.

01:07 And today just is the icing on top of the cake,

01:10 I think, to be here celebrating Vegemite's 100th birthday.

01:15 It's an occasion we'll never get again,

01:19 and I'm just so proud to be part of it.

01:21 And I'm sure that from now on we'll get many, many,

01:25 many more happy little Vegemites for generations to come.

01:30 And I wish it a happy birthday.
