Max Verstappen's Girlfriend is Left SERIOUSLY Impressed as He's Booed after Winning US Grand Prix
Max Verstappen's girlfriend was spotted cutting an unamused figure at the US Grand Prix on Sunday, as American fans booed the reigning world champion on the Formula One podium.
Claiming his 15th race win in 18 attempts, the Dutchman clinched the 50th victory of his F1 career in Austin, Texas this weekend, edging out Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris to lead at the chequered flag.
Several fans - many of whom were supporters of the Dutchman's Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez - booed Verstappen as he headed to the podium to collect his trophy, while his Brazilian model girlfriend Kelly Piquet watched on unimpressed.
Whether due to his aggressive driving style, his competitive rivalry with Hamilton, his relationship with Perez, or simply his sheer dominance in the sport, Verstappen has become an unpopular figure among several F1 fans in recent years.
In a video shared on social media, Verstappen is seen kissing and proudly holding the trophy aloft to the sound of fans booing and jeering over the Dutch national anthem, with some shouting, 'Checo', in support of his Mexican team-mate Perez.
The footage pans to Piquet holding up a mobile phone and recording her boyfriend on the podium, before turning to the person next to her with a puzzled and unimpressed expression on her face.
When asked if the booing irritated him, Verstappen told ViaPlay: 'No, no. In the end, I'm the one who takes the silverware home, so all fine by me!'
Hamilton, who at one stage looked as though he might end his 686-day wait for a Grand Prix win on Sunday, initially held Mercedes' strategy responsible after falling to second place behind Verstappen, forced to settle for a podium finish. But the British driver was ultimately denied his second-place finish four hours later after being disqualified for running an illegal floor.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who finished sixth, was also expelled for the same illegality by four stewards in Austin.
