2022 Lexus NX First Look: New Tech, Design, and Powertrain

00:00 Hey everyone, I'm Miguel Cortina with Motortrend with the all-new 2022 Lexus NX.

00:13 This is the second generation NX which arrives with an all-new design, modern technology

00:17 and new powertrains, including the first ever plug-in hybrid variant in the US.

00:23 So everything starts up front right here with the new spindle grille.

00:27 And you can see how it has a new shape, it's wider and it's sleeker too.

00:32 So it helps with that aggressiveness that Lexus is always looking for in the NX.

00:37 You see big character lines also in the hood.

00:40 And as you move back here to the profile, you don't really see that sportiness or that

00:44 aggressiveness that you see in the front.

00:46 Overall, it's a whole new design and a new design language for Lexus.

00:51 In terms of powertrains, there will be four different powertrains.

00:54 The base engine will be a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine for the 250 model.

00:58 The 350, which is this one right here, comes with a 2.4-liter turbo engine with over 270

01:04 horsepower.

01:05 The 350h is a hybrid powertrain, but the star of the show is the 450h Plus.

01:11 That's a plug-in hybrid variant and that's pretty much the same powertrain that you find

01:15 in the RAV4 Prime that delivers over 300 horsepower and 36 miles of electric range.

01:22 So inside is really where the magic happens here in the Lexus NX.

01:26 And that starts right here with the 14-inch screen.

01:29 This is a new touchscreen and a new multimedia system developed in-house by Toyota.

01:35 And they really knocked it out of the park here because what they did is they signed

01:39 up with Google to do their maps.

01:41 They also have Apple Music installed inside the system so you can simply sign in and stream

01:47 your music without connecting your phone to it.

01:50 You can also do that with Amazon Music.

01:52 And you also have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, both wireless, standard.

01:58 So really good improvements in the multimedia side.

02:02 The cabin itself feels a little bit wider, a little bit more spacious, very slick, and

02:07 very elegant as well.

02:08 And I love this red leather, how it gives it that character of the S-port like this

02:13 model is.

02:15 So that's the all-new 2022 Lexus NX.
