00:25 We've seen you taking that brilliant catch all the way

00:28 back in 2008.

00:30 It was a roller coaster journey.

00:32 You finally made your ODI World Cup for Netherlands.

00:35 So if you could tell us about the journey,

00:37 how it has been for you, the cricketing journey,

00:40 and how-- and today you scored your maiden 50 as well.

00:44 If you could talk about the journey from that catch

00:46 from 2008 in Malaysia and to the 50 you scored in Lucknow today,

00:51 and briefly.

00:53 Yeah, so I played professionally in South Africa.

00:58 Up until 2016, December of 2016, and I

01:03 moved into a corporate career.

01:05 I studied finance.

01:06 I went into the finance route with a company called Fairtree.

01:11 I did my master's, my MBA as well,

01:14 and I've been working for the last seven years

01:16 for the same company.

01:18 And about three years ago, we moved from South Africa

01:21 to the Netherlands and started playing again predominantly

01:27 just to make friends and integrate into the community.

01:32 And it wasn't, I suppose, up until Ryan Cook

01:36 and the rest of the management took over

01:39 that the interest came a little bit about again.

01:43 And only this year in July, I think

01:46 I became eligible to play for the Netherlands.

01:49 So I spoke to Ryan Cook and asked, look,

01:56 would you be interested in me putting my name in the hat?

01:59 And he was brutally honest because the team did really

02:04 well to qualify and get us here.

02:07 So he said, but absolutely, the broader the pool,

02:10 the better for them.

02:13 And here we are.

02:14 Yeah, very happy to be here.

02:17 I must admit it's still a bit of a pill to swallow.

02:22 Getting to 260-odd off the start,

02:27 we thought it was a very competitive score.

02:30 Maybe the pitch got a little bit better,

02:34 but I thought they controlled the innings really well.

02:38 And we just didn't quite pitch up today with a ball,

02:41 unfortunately.

02:42 So yeah, not the ideal result for us,

02:47 but we'll move forward and we'll try and be better and learn

02:50 from this as quickly as possible.

02:57 So you walked out to bat when you guys were 91 for 6, I guess,

03:01 and then a massive partnership.

03:05 So what were the thoughts running through your mind

03:08 before-- till 91 for 6 and from there on,

03:13 when you played a commendable knock,

03:15 you took the responsibility on your shoulder.

03:18 So could you please sum up both the experiences?

03:22 Yeah, look, I think a lot of credit needs to go to Logan.

03:25 I thought he batted brilliantly.

03:27 And we just try to extend and take it as deep as possible.

03:33 So we just told ourselves, if we can get to the last 10 over,

03:37 6 down, we're giving ourselves a good chance.

03:42 So for us, it really wasn't necessarily

03:45 about trying to accumulate runs.

03:46 It was just about making sure that we get

03:48 into positive positions and pick up the runs when we could,

03:51 but to try and lay a bit of a foundation for us

03:54 to start scoring a little bit more freely

03:57 to the back end, which we managed to do.

04:01 So happy with the partnership.

04:04 I thought Logan batted brilliantly.

04:07 And together, we just kind of kept on going.

04:10 We were pretty calm out there.

04:12 And then on the 40th over, we tried

04:16 to shift gears to try and accumulate

04:18 a little bit more runs.

04:21 So yeah, it was a good partnership for us.

04:25 But it would have been fantastic to get a little bit more.

04:29 Oh, 91 for 6 at one stage, and you really

04:33 fight back well to pick up the score.

04:35 But what was the turning point of the match?

04:37 Sri Lanka did really well to win the game

04:40 after they got three defeats consecutively on this World Cup.

04:44 What was your turning point of this match?

04:46 I thought at the halfway stage, we

04:53 thought we had a decent score.

04:56 I don't think we would have taken it necessarily.

04:59 I think the pitch definitely got better as the day went on.

05:03 But I mean, I spoke to Maxi about it as well.

05:06 And there was still consistently something in the pitch

05:09 if we bowled the right areas.

05:11 And I just thought we didn't string enough good balls

05:15 together for long enough to put the Sri Lanka

05:19 team under pressure.

05:20 So unfortunately, they were quite clinical in the way

05:24 that they executed.

05:26 They were able to absorb the pressure

05:27 and then transfer the pressure onto us.

05:29 So I thought they batted really well.

05:32 And I think they just outplayed us.

05:34 You lost to Sri Lanka twice during the qualifying

05:38 tournament.

05:39 They lost to once again during the practice game.

05:43 What was your mind before this match today?

05:47 We were very positive.

05:49 We were very confident in the growth

05:52 that we've shown as a team over the last six to eight

05:55 to 12 months.

05:57 So we're a better team now than we were when we played them

06:00 at the qualifiers.

06:02 And we thought that if we stick to our processes,

06:05 if we implement our plans and execute well for long enough,

06:12 then we stood a really good chance.

06:13 And I think there were periods in the game

06:15 that you could definitely see that.

06:17 So credit goes to them.

06:19 They played well.

06:21 Unfortunately, we just couldn't string it together

06:24 for long enough.

06:26 Saebrin, you had a great season of top class

06:29 in a century for Netherlands coming into this World Cup.

06:32 Can you take us through what that step up

06:34 to international cricket is like and the adjustments

06:37 that you made, especially playing in India?

06:40 Yeah, I haven't made a lot of adjustments.

06:44 I've tried to keep it as simple as possible.

06:46 I think when you do make the step up from club cricket

06:49 in the Netherlands, you could maybe sometimes think,

06:52 oh, wow, I need to do so much more, so things differently.

06:57 But the reality is in our changing room,

06:59 we've got really good cricketers.

07:01 And we just need to back ourselves and our processes

07:04 and stick to our plans.

07:07 So nothing really changed.

07:10 It's just trying to be as clear as possible

07:12 and to watch the ball as closely as possible.

07:14 So I'm happy that it came off for me personally today.

07:17 But as I said, we've got really, really good cricketers

07:21 in our changing room.

07:22 And it'll show as we go along.
