A heritage group in Burgh le Marsh says it hopes the sails will turn again on Dobson's Mill by 2026, after they were ripped away by Storm Ciara in 2020. In the meantime they are keeping busy helping good causes.

Residents of Burriller Marsh can still remember sails turning on Dobson's Mill
00:05
before they came crashing down in Storm Sierra in 2020. However the Heritage
00:11
Group has been keeping the dream of the mill returning to its former glory alive.
00:16
Thank you for your wonderful donation.
00:20
When I first joined in 2019, they went out to 877 emergencies.
00:28
Last year in 2022 that number rose to 1620.
00:36
And since that very first flight in an ex-police helicopter back in 1994,
00:44
they've actually now attended 28,199 emergencies.

00:55
Hi I'm Melissa, I'm the manager here at the Bell Hotel at Burriller Marsh.
01:01
You've got quite a group in today haven't you, playing bingo and raising funds.
01:07
Yes, so initially they started when I first started working here,
01:12
so about three and a half, four years ago.
01:14
Initially it was to raise money for the women who were left when the mill broke.
01:18
And as the years have raised money, they've raised enough money now to mend the mill,
01:22
they've now split it between different charities and we believe as a pub
01:26
that it's really, really important to support the community.
01:30
But when can residents expect to see sales back on Burrow Wing Mill?
01:36
Hi I'm Malcolm Ringsell from the Burriller Marsh Heritage Centre at Dobsons Mill.
01:42
Now it was in 2020 when Storm Sierra took the five sales from Burrow Wing Mill.
01:52
What is the position now?
01:54
At the moment we're waiting now for the final result of the architects work
01:59
and the mill rights consultation to take place.
02:04
Because this is a Grade 1 listed building, there are lots and lots of paperwork
02:08
to be done to ensure things are done properly.
02:11
Now earlier in the year I came to the opening of a heritage room.
02:16
The heritage group has been busy all that time, haven't they?
02:20
We've been really busy, we do lots of things.
02:23
We have several groups meeting during the week, the tea rooms open every Sunday
02:29
and this afternoon of course we've just been involved with our bingo group,
02:33
handing over £660 to the Knotts and Lyncshire Air Ambulance.
02:39
So have you a date in mind when the sales may be back on Burrow Wing Mill?
02:47
It's going to be late 2025, if not 2026, because it's going to be a two year job.
02:57
Because it takes so long to prepare the sales and to check all the other things out that need mending.
03:04
So the heritage group's going to have lots more events before then.
03:09
I understand you're planning something for Christmas too?
03:12
Yeah, we're going to have our annual Santa in the Mill Day on December 9th
03:17
when we've got the choir coming from Skegness, the rock choir,
03:24
and we're going to have Santa in the Mill for all the children to come and get their present from Santa.
03:30
All the presents are provided by the Town Council.
03:34
So hopefully it'll be a good day for people to come along and find out more?
03:39
A good day to come along? There's going to be stalls, there'll be hot dogs, mulled wine,
03:44
mince pies and coffee and lots of music and hopefully a DJ for the children in the new room.
