Aboriginal teen detainee begged for transfer just before suicide attempt

The Aboriginal Legal Service has revealed it wrote to the Department of Justice just two weeks ago requesting a transfer for a juvenile detainee who attempted suicide yesterday. The ALS asked the Department to move the 16-year-old out of Unit-18 at Casuarina Prison and into Banksia Hill out of concern for his mental health, but the Department did not respond.
