Hi, my name is Sam from Sussex World and today's top stories from across the county for Thursday,
00:05
October 12th.
00:08
Volunteers from Eastbourne's RNLI were called out to assist a 30ft yacht which had suffered
00:12
from engine failure.
00:13
The volunteer crew were paged at 1.30am on Tuesday October 10th and requested to launch
00:18
the all-weather lifeboat to take over the tow of a 30ft yacht which had suffered from
00:22
engine failure from volunteers from Rye RNLI.
00:26
Once on the scene, the crew took over the tow and brought the yacht into safety in Sovereign
00:30
Harbour before being stood down just before 5 in the morning.
00:36
This Trafalgar Day, veterans and civilians will join forces for an epic 12 hour relay
00:40
run of the 1,398ft high Rock of Gibraltar in support of headline making veteran sport
00:46
charity Waterloo Uncovered following the success of last year's inaugural event.
00:51
This year, it's bigger and better than ever with more than 20 runners taking on the gruelling
00:55
challenge in aid of Waterloo Uncovered's life changing veteran sport programmes including
01:00
Commonwealth Games competitor Arnold Rogers who serves in the Royal Gibraltar Regiment
01:04
and Commodore Tom Guy who took up the post of Commander of the British Forces of Gibraltar
01:08
in 2022.
01:11
And finally, remains have been found in West Sussex leading to police to cordon off the
01:15
road as they investigate.
01:17
Sussex Police were called to Iford Avenue in Crawley following a report of bags filled
01:21
with what appeared to be remains.
01:24
The cordon remains in place as Sussex Police continue to investigate the incident.
01:27
In a statement, a spokesperson for Sussex Police said, "Police were called to a field
01:32
off Iford Avenue in Crawley at about 5.25pm on Tuesday October 10th to report some bags
01:37
filled with what appeared to be remains.
01:39
The area has been cordoned off and forensic tests are underway to confirm the contents
01:42
of the bag."
