00:00 Hollywood and LA and that whole lifestyle can suck the soul out of you if you're not careful."
00:06 Josh Duhamel is getting candid about his relationship with ex-wife Fergie
00:11 and why their Hollywood romance wasn't meant to last.
00:14 The former couple, who share now 10-year-old son Axel, split in 2017 after eight years of marriage.
00:23 During an October 4th clip from In Depth with Graham Bensinger,
00:28 Josh opens up about the dynamic of their relationship.
00:32 "Your sister says it made you, this is her opinion, realize you can't expect somebody
00:41 to be who you need them to be. You need to accept them for who they are."
00:46 "Yeah, I'd say that's probably true. And it probably works, she probably could say the
00:51 same thing about me. You know, it was great girl, great girl. But you know, I think we both agree
00:58 that we're just very different. And we made an awesome kid. We get along great and we get to
01:04 raise him without any hecarony." Josh goes on to explain how his life in the
01:09 spotlight took a personal toll on his relationship. "I don't think I ever really got comfortable with
01:15 all of it. It was just a lot. I just missed the simplicity of who I really am, you know.
01:27 I'm just not a guy who is comfortable, you know, going to red carpets, doing all the Hollywood
01:36 stuff. I don't hate it, I'm better at it now than I was, but it just took me a long time to
01:41 really feel like I belong, like I fit in. And so, you know, having this place out here really
01:49 allows me to get back to that kid that fell in love with nature and fell in love with the outdoors
01:56 and being creative and just being active. You know, Hollywood and LA and that whole lifestyle
02:04 can suck the soul out of you if you're not careful." Looking back at his time with the
02:10 Black Eyed Peas singer, Josh says that he doesn't have any regrets. "It doesn't make me uncomfortable.
02:17 I just, I've made peace with that part of my life. She and I have a great relationship.
02:24 We're both raising that boy together. And there wasn't anything wrong with it. We actually had a
02:31 lot of, we had a great time, but I think we just kind of outgrew each other and had very different
02:37 interests. And I, the older I got, the more I wanted to come back here and then she hadn't,
02:41 she didn't, this is not for her. But I've got no hard feelings for it. I truly don't.
02:46 I'm very lucky that she's a kind human, I really am." And when it comes to co-parenting their
02:53 son, Josh explains how it's been easy as the two have always had similar goals. "We both had
03:00 parents who got divorced who didn't get along so great and didn't want to do the same thing
03:09 to our kid. We knew that we, whatever differences we may have had, we had to like figure that out and
03:16 and be like a positive example for Axel. I just think that we both wanted the same thing and that
03:27 is to create an easy place for him that isn't awkward or uncomfortable or pressure filled.
03:37 You know, that's it."
03:40 "I think that's the best part of it. I think that's the best part of it."
