Faversham's Brenley Corner set for upgrade after HS2 leg scrapped

The roundabout is one of the roads given the green light to receive a portion of the billions of investment in UK roads, according to the Prime Minister.

00:00 This is something we're all familiar with, being sat in traffic at a roundabout and just

00:04 waiting for the light to turn green.

00:07 For those living anywhere near Faversham, Brenly Corner has become infamous for this.

00:13 This was just usual lunch hour traffic, but in rush hour, these queues can stretch for

00:18 miles.

00:19 Rishi Sunak's pledged to invest billions into roads across the country, including here

00:23 in Kent.

00:24 The M2 and A2 were both mentioned, and right in the centre lies the Brenly Corner roundabout.

00:30 But one local councillor is sceptical of the promise.

00:35 Local people won't believe a word the Prime Minister says about roads or anything else.

00:39 On Brenly Corner, we've been waiting years for some major improvement to that roundabout.

00:44 It's hugely busy with local traffic, people going to work, shops, schools, and also lorries

00:50 heading towards the Channel port.

00:53 It's just too small a roundabout for the volume of traffic, and I think he'll say anything

00:58 he wants to to save his skin.

00:59 But residents on Faversham High Street were hoping for other matters to be mentioned in

01:04 the Prime Minister's speech.

01:06 It will be the NHS, I think, that needs a lot of money, and nurses and doctors getting

01:10 paid like they should.

01:11 I was doing the potholes, and he did say they're going to spend money on that, but not here,

01:17 it'll be up in the north.

01:18 The doctors round here aren't coping as well.

01:22 Yeah, the roads could do with some help, but it's not priority.

01:27 It's not.

01:28 It's not.

01:29 I mean, I've been waiting for procedures and things to happen for like eight months.

01:36 And nothing's happening.

01:37 Yeah, nothing's happening, and I think the NHS really does need extra support.

01:43 And of course, these roads also go through Medway.

01:46 The leader of the opposition at Medway Council was disappointed not to hear the Lower Thames

01:51 Crossing mentioned, but overall hopeful after the speech.

01:55 I hope that means that the Lower Thames Crossing will go ahead, because a lot of us residents

02:02 have to cross the Dartford Crossing to get to work.

02:05 The present crossing, everybody accepts, is a complete nightmare.

02:08 And the other one I've heard that may be in the pipeline is Brindley Corner, which is

02:13 an absolute nightmare, because that's one I use regularly when my wife and I go down

02:17 to visit Canterbury.

02:19 Any investment in Kent's roads will be, I think, very, very welcome indeed.

02:24 The question being asked now is, is the Prime Minister actually going to stick to his promise

02:27 and deliver these improvements to Kent's roads?

02:30 Well, if he does, we should hopefully start to see problems easing soon, and things start

02:34 to move a bit smoother for Kent's motorists.
