Nancy Mace Solicits Campaign Funds on Fox, Flouting House Rules.
South Carolina Republican Rep. Nancy Mace may have broken House rules by subtly soliciting donations at the Capitol complex — and then doubling down on her “principled stand.”
Mace, 45, defended her fundraising off of Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) ouster in an interview Wednesday, before seemingly asking Fox Business viewers for money.
“You’re d— right I’m fundraising off of this right now because the establishment is coming after me for taking a principle stand,” Mace told Fox Business Network.
The California rep then continued to plug her website and ask for donations.
“If your viewers want to help out, they can go to NancyMace.org. I am not going to be shamed for doing this. Kevin broke a lot of promises,” she added.
Mace then posted a video of the exchange to her X, formerly Twitter account, more explicitly urging her fans to “chip in today.”
“The House buildings, and House rooms and offices…may not be used for the conduct of campaign or political activities,” a condensed version of the House Ethics Manual says.
Fellow South Carolinian, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, whom Mace primaried unsuccessfully in 2014, was reprimanded by the Senate Select Committee on Ethics for a similar violation earlier this year.
Graham conducted a cable news interview on Nov. 30 of last year and attempted to solicit donations for Georgia GOP Senate contender Herschel Walker while in the Dirksen Senate Office Building.
Mace was one of eight House Republicans who championed a motion to depose McCarthy Tuesday.
She faulted him for failing to bring up her legislation on “women’s issues” and accused him of lying.
McCarthy disputed those assertions and claimed that one of her staffers privately confided to him that the California lawmaker didn’t break any of his promises.
The former speaker, who became the first in US history to be ousted via a motion to vacate the chair, fundraised for Mace in the past.
She faced a contentious 2022 midterm primary from Trump-aligned Katie Arrington who bashed her ties to the so-called establishment.
But now that Mace is dancing on McCarthy’s political grave, many House Republicans are livid.
“This is what it’s about,” Rep. Garret Graves (R-La.) angrily told CBS while pointing to his phone showing a fundraising effort. “It’s about raising campaign contributions.”
“I think [it] should be illegal — I think it’s disgusting and some of the swampiest behavior you can have.
Graves’ ire was particularly directed at Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) who led the effort to subdue McCarthy. He passionately slammed the fundraising activity on the House floor Tuesday.
But Mace was shameless about her fundraising, posting requests to social media and stressing that the “establishment” was out for vengeance against her.
