00:14 A decision not welcomed by everyone, because it is seen as an attempt to end debate about

00:20 "In my opinion, it is a sign of fear that a police station is being established here.

00:28 Because people are afraid that neo-Nazis could cause trouble here and think they could be

00:33 prevented by a permanent presence of police.

00:39 It is a defensive move, not an offensive one."

00:42 In the past, the building was used by a charity for people with disabilities.

00:47 Then in 2016, the Austrian government requisitioned the house, saying it wanted to tear it down.

00:57 a neo-Nazi shrine.

00:59 Residents in the town of Braunau would have preferred a different solution.

01:06 There used to be a social aid office here, where I did my civil service.

01:26 So I am not really in favor of a police station.

01:36 It did not harm anyone and could have housed social aid institutions once again."

01:45 To complicate matters even more, an old newspaper article has emerged that says Hitler himself

01:50 wanted his birthplace to be converted into an administrative building.

01:55 However some say it now looks like the Austrian government might be inadvertently fulfilling
