What's the best thing about living in Birmingham, and how could it improve?

In recent years, Birmingham's pride as a city has soared due to numerous cultural events and icons gaining global recognition. I'm here today in the city centre to speak the people here to gather their perspectives on Birmingham, and exploring their opinions on potential improvements for the city.

00:00 The best thing about living in Birmingham is the fact that there's so much youth here.

00:04 It's like the youngest city in all of Europe.

00:06 So the demographic, there's a lot of creativity, there's a lot of new investment, and since

00:11 last year, the 2022 games, it's under a magnifying glass with tourism and people investing in

00:16 creative stuff, studios opening up around Digworth, so it's very promising.

00:22 But in terms of change, I wish there was a better allocation of resources and maybe making

00:28 it a bit better in the city because there seems to be a lot of investment but often

00:32 very dirty.

00:37 I really like the variety of places to eat here.

00:40 I mean, my family often come from Leicester to Birmingham for the restaurants because

00:43 there's so many good places here.

00:45 So I think that I like the cultural diversity, I like that you can pretty much find anything

00:49 you want here.

00:50 I think that's really nice.

00:51 Yeah, I haven't been here for very long, but it looks like a very lively city.

00:55 So there's tons of things to do and I certainly wouldn't mind living here.

01:04 Me personally, I like the atmosphere around it.

01:06 I like how the shops are and I like how it is.

01:11 I like the way it's set out and how it's easy and accessible to find where you need to go

01:16 most of the time because of the signs and everything.

01:18 I also like seeing a lot of people just walking around and everything because it's also pretty

01:22 nice.

01:23 I don't think I'd really change anything about it to be fair.

01:27 Maybe just the litter things, but other than that, I think I'd really like it.

01:30 Yeah, I like the hustle and bustle about it, like how easy it's to get around, like transport

01:36 and the shops, they're really good as well.

01:39 It's good, yeah.

01:42 Change I'd like have the bins and stuff and the litter and everything.

01:46 That's the main problem.

01:47 But other than that, it's quite good.

01:50 I love the nightlife.

01:56 Nightlife in Birmingham is pretty good.

01:57 Yeah, it is pretty good.

01:58 It's always a vibe.

01:59 Some of the chains.

02:01 The underpasses.

02:02 Yeah, get rid of the rats.

02:06 Well, that's any city's problem, isn't it?

02:13 The thing I like most is that it's such a great place for diversity.

02:19 So I met people from all around the world and you wouldn't expect that in normal places.

02:26 And I like that I can mix around and I can learn from every single culture.

02:31 At my university, there are so many different students there and we can see where everyone

02:38 is from and then just see within ourselves the differences between the places we're from.

02:46 So yeah, that's really good.

02:47 And the thing that could be improved, I think, would be some more infrastructure for people

02:51 to just gather around and have some meeting areas.

02:55 I noticed that the city centre has been under construction for quite a few years now, so

02:59 I hope that will be towards the greater good.
