Michael Barlow: Former Fremantle Dockers midfielder joins coaching staff after VFL grand final apper

Sought-after former docker Michael Barlow will join North Melbourne as the Roos' new head of development after a successful stint at VFL Club Werribee. The former Fremantle midfielder is understood be being pursued by a handful of AFL clubs, but has opted to join Alastair Clarkson at the Roos in 2024, according AFL.au. Barlow, who played 126 games for Dockers before a 15-game stint on the Gold Coast, moved into coaching at end of his playing career in 2018. He spent two years with the independent VFL club before being appointed as a senior coach ahead of the 2021 season. Barlow was drafted in as a mature 21-year-old from Werribee and an impressive debut season for Fremantle has put him in the conversation as a shock Brownlow medal contender. A broken leg ended his junior season early, but he went on to play more than 100 games with the Purple. After being listed by Dockers at end of 2016, Barlow was picked up by Suns and spent two seasons on Gold Coast. His appointment at North Melbourne marks Barlow's first return to the AFL since his retirement.
