"K9 Has Already Ate" - May 18, 2022

On the night of May 18th, 2022, a Caldwell Parish Sheriff's Office deputy stopped a motorist for unspecified reasons. Most likely simply for driving at night, if I've got this deputy figured right. There were no traffic charges listed in his arrest record.

The motorist denied consent to search the vehicle, so the deputy requested a K9. There was a K9 handler on shift, but he couldn't go because his "dog has already ate." Let's stop and think about that for just a moment. Why would it matter whether the dog had already eaten, if he was trained to alert on drugs and not on food? You already know what I'm thinking.

The dispatcher managed to get another K9 to respond (presumably one that was still hungry...), and the deputies spent the next hour and a half searching the vehicle. That timescale isn't really apparent due to my recording software not recording hours upon hours of silence.

The deputies allegedly found paraphernalia in the vehicle, and arrested the driver. What came of the case, I don't know, because our local newspaper hasn't printed court results in several years thanks to pressure from the sheriff's department.
