00:05 big rivalries, a season finale to that year of wrestling content and then 24 hours later

00:10 no time to rest let's deal with the fallout, debut some new styles and start the whole

00:14 thing over again. In recent times the post-WrestleMania roar has become something of a tradition,

00:19 a rowdy show packed by rowdy international fans still on their mania vacation, with WWE

00:24 often capitalising on their fervour with some awesome surprises and twists, at least that's

01:45 29. 1993 The very first post-Wrestlemania Raw took

01:49 place in '93 after the famously terrible WrestleMania 9. This hour-long show has almost

01:54 nothing to it, not one single champion properly appears on the show, definitely not new WWF

02:00 champion Hulk Hogan, and the show is just about Jerry Lawler repeatedly refusing to

02:04 wrestle. Bob Backlund vs. Kim Chi anyone? Anyone?

02:08 28. 1994 Like '93, almost absolutely nothing of note

02:12 happens here. The Bushwhackers vs. The Quebeckers. Always nice to see the Bushwhackers licking

02:16 people's faces except absolutely no it never is. Hey, at least there's an in-ring interview

02:20 with the newly crowned WWF champion this time, only it's babyface Bret Hart. He's bad

02:25 at promos. So there we go.

02:27 27. 2020 I mean, I don't think anyone was expecting

02:30 this one to be good, and boy it sure wasn't. Three hours of nothing. The debut of Bianca

02:35 Belair before she'd then disappear for months, some nothing jobber matches, and of course

02:40 the surprise WrestleMania main event of the big show being a massive knob and challenging

02:45 Drew for his championship for no reason.

02:47 26. 2021 I mean, I guess the Thunderdome is better

02:50 than Silent No Bastards in the Performance Center, but man what a disappointing Raw after

02:54 the better than average Mania 37. The Viking Raiders and Charlotte made their return, and

02:59 Chex notes, "That's it. Literally the only debut of the night was a haunted doll

03:04 that looked like Annabelle after she'd stayed awake for 36 hours, swapping to early years

03:07 paramour after a bad breakup." WWE is in the business of misery, and speaking

03:12 of business, I guess maybe Mason T-Bar joined the Hurt Business? I don't know man.

03:19 25. 2006 God damn 2006 was a weird gross year, and

03:23 it's all present and correct in this Raw, which saw the world's bounciest boys beat

03:27 Big Show and Kane for their tag titles, Vince leaning balls first into his feud with God,

03:31 and Chavo Guerrero losing to Shelton Benjamin, which WWE then built a story around of him

03:35 shaming Eddie's memory. Gross, but hey, at least Umaga debuted.

03:40 24. 1997 A fairly lifeless show in WWE's transitional

03:44 year, Bret Hart continues his heel turn, attacking Shawn Michaels after his "Just Because I

03:48 Choose to Live My Life Openly and Freely" promo which would be key to the Screwjob months

03:52 later, the rest of the card is just filler like "Flash Funk vs. The Brooklyn Brawler?"

03:57 Hot damn. Before it ends with a Super Awks promo of Paul Bearer pleading at Hot Topic

04:01 Cowboy in the ring, Mankind pleading with Paul over the Titan-tron, and then the show

04:06 just runs out of time and cuts away with JR saying "uh, goodbye everybody". What?

04:12 23. 2007 A surprisingly good year for WWE, but you

04:16 wouldn't know it from this Raw. The Hardys won the tag team titles from HBK and Cena

04:20 in a tag team battle royal, which is actually a restart of a battle royal that had just

04:24 happened. There was a lot of Vince's bald lol, him with his precious guys and dolls

04:29 hat, before putting his head up Lillian Garcia's skirt, and she's then pantsed by babyface

04:33 Bobby Lashley, who'd wrestle Umaga in the main for the heatless ECW title. No thank

04:39 you.

04:40 22. 2011 So your luck for this show is going to depend

04:42 on how much you like announcements, because its main event is the granddaddy of announcements,

04:46 Rock and Cena telling us to save the date for their big wedding one full year later.

04:51 That's pretty huge. The rest of the show though, sucks. Sin Cara debuts, immediately

04:56 botching his entrance, bad luck little man. Steve Austin introduces tough enough participants,

05:01 oh hey Cameron, they all get a chance to talk as well for fuck's sake. And Michael Cole,

05:06 one night after his big mania "win", is just the worst, making his commentary legit

05:12 change the channel insufferable. It's a dog shit episode of Raw.

05:17 21. 1999 Even the Attitude Era and its supposed prime

05:21 wasn't immune from bullshit. And that's more than present in this scatterbrained,

05:25 confusing and pretty nasty episode of Raw. Austin teases vacating the belt because he

05:30 wants his precious smoking skull merchandising opportunity back. Stephanie gets abducted

05:34 by the ministry and tattooed in the boiler room. Taker throttles Sable. X-Pac wants to

05:39 smoke Triple H's arse. Goldust wins the IC title thanks to the blue meanie before

05:44 cutting an incomprehensible but sexually threatening promo as Vince Russo smeared all over it in

05:50 all the worst ways.

05:51 20. 2019 Ah man, WWE's 2010's hot streak of post-mania

05:56 roars ended before the pandemic even hit. There was a lame Seth Rollins vs Kofi Kingston

06:01 title unification match that no one wanted to see because both babyfaces had just won

06:05 their titles. That match ended in a DQ because of course it did. There's a decent surprise

06:10 pop for Undertaker showing up to recognise his shit when your only other surprise is

06:14 the debut of Lars Sullivan. I mean the crowd did its best but nah.

06:19 19. 1995 After the boring '93 and '94 roars,

06:23 1995 sees the first post-mania roar to at least attempt to show a bit of occasion. Most

06:27 of the champions are in attendance. There's a swerve of Sid turning on his boss HPK. Bertha

06:32 Faye debuts attacking Alundra Blaze after her match with Bull Nakano, a rematch that

06:36 had actually been built for months since their bout in the Tokyo Dome the year before. From

06:40 an in-ring perspective it's… okay in places but still fairly dull. But at least it's

06:45 a step in the right direction towards… the good.

06:48 18. 1996 This roar is famous more for what it sets

06:52 up than what it accomplishes. But oh boy it sets up some pretty great things. Marc Marrow

06:56 debuts and teams with Sable, one of the most iconic partnerships of the next few years.

06:59 But even bigger is the debut of mankind, setting up an on and off rivalry with Taker that would

07:05 become a blueprint of WWE ditching the cartoonish tone of the new generation era and aiming

07:10 for something with a bit more attitude.

07:12 17. 2005 Ah yes, the uneventful but solid kind of roar.

07:17 After years of 3 hour confusing roars, I will take a mid-2000s not much happens but the

07:22 wrestling's good episode any day. Steve Austin gets a nice pop for stunning Maven

07:27 and Simon Dean, Chris Benoit vs Edge is good, Hugh Champatista vs Orton is good, Shelton

07:31 Benjamin vs Christian vs Jericho, yes please, a "yesterday I lost but that was one night,

07:37 I'm great every night" promo from Triple H, you actually also cut that promo both in

07:42 2006 and also in, number 16, 2004. Genuinely it's almost a copy-paste show of 2005.

07:50 Triple H cuts the "I lost so what" promo, there's decent mid-card wrestling mostly

07:55 involving Chris Jericho, Austin stuns someone, in this case Rene Dupree, the newly crowned

08:00 World Heavyweight Champion competes against some form of Randy Orton, this time Benoit

08:04 and HBK vs Evolution, except this year there was a super weird moment of Vince announcing

08:08 a draft lottery but in the middle of a match between Jackie Gaider and Stacey Keebler.

08:12 Like seriously the match is still happening in the ring when Vince just walks out and

08:15 both women leave so he can talk. What?

08:20 Number 15, 2000. Like 1996 this roar sets a whole bunch of good stuff in motion, China

08:25 turns on Y2J and allies with Eddie Guerrero, the whole Mamacita pairing would go on to

08:29 be super great, the big show kicks off as "I just want to have a little bit of fun"

08:34 impersonation persona, and the Rocks feud with the McMahons starts the road to the amazing

08:38 Backlash 2000. There's a European title change, hardcore title change, a brawl between

08:42 the Hardys, Dudleys and Edging Christian, it's a good little show.

08:46 Number 14, 2016. This roar comes very close to jumping the shark, despite explicitly hiring

08:52 grumpopulous Markle to murder his son at Mania to prevent him from running Raw, Vince lets

08:56 Shane run Raw anyway. Zack Ryder loses the IC title after one day and Charlotte's coronation

09:02 segment is a huge mess because the crowd don't let her heal properly. Even so, Apollo Crews

09:06 debuted well, Enzo and Cass debuted super well, and so did Baron Corbin. Hey look it's

09:11 me! Cesaro returned and AJ Styles became number one contender which were all brilliant things.

09:16 Number 13, 2009. This roar isn't off remembered but has a few really good things going for

09:21 it. Ricky Steamboat wrestles in an All Stars tag match that feels suitably blockbuster,

09:25 look at these lads. WWE makes amends for putting him on the Mania pre-show by letting Carlito

09:30 and Primo battle Miz and Morrison in a lumberjack match with bodies all over the place. And

09:34 the super hot Orton vs McMahon story continues in the main event with the return of Batista

09:39 and good lord what a pop. A shame there's a drastically sh*t Santina promo in there

09:44 but you can't have everything.

09:46 Number 12, 2010. Only one thing happens in the 2010 roar after Mania, but it's a very

09:50 important thing. Shawn Michaels retires. There are promos from Bret Hart, Triple H, Batista

09:55 and Cena, it's a stick heavy show but the last 20 minutes belongs to HBK saying goodbye.

10:00 And it's heartfelt and sweet and Crown Jewel 2018 never happened. The rest of the episode

10:05 has the cast of Hot Tub Time Machine twatting around as there's really nothing else on

10:10 the show. But it doesn't matter, what matters is the Heartbreak Kids farewell which almost

10:14 makes this roar one of the greats.

10:18 Number 11, 2003. Super fun show this, whether it's newly Hall of Famed Kanan RVD winning

10:24 the tag titles from Lance Storm and Chief Morley, remember them. Triple H wrestling the

10:28 Hurricane after his improbable victory over The Rock on the road to Mania 19, Eric Bischoff

10:33 shock firing Steve Austin, twisting Austin's shoot visit to the hospital into kayfabe and

10:37 of course whoop-ass Goldberg interrupting Hollywood Rock's appreciation night and

10:42 spearing the Brahma ball out of his early 2000s leather chaps. KABLAM.

10:45 Number 10, 2012. I mean how could a show featuring the debut of calligraphied hot dog Lord Tenzai

10:51 be considered anything other than great? It is a fairly blockbuster show, The Rock announced

10:54 he'd challenge for the WWE title in the future, uh oh. CM Punk defended the WWE title

10:59 against Mark Henry, Del Rio returned, but the night belongs to Bork Laser, showing up

11:04 and destroying Green Man. Oh my indeed, Michael.

11:08 Number 9, 2018. Just so many people show up on this post-Mania roar, Ember Moon, No Way

11:13 Jose, the Authors of Pain all make their main roster debuts, kinda sad that we don't see

11:18 any of them on the main roster nowadays but hey ho. Bobby Lashley makes his return to

11:21 WWE in a pretty huge moment, Samoa Joe returns from injury, Paige gives her retirement address,

11:26 and in one of the funniest pops in recent memory Kurt Angle tells Kevin Owens and Sami

11:29 Zayn that TNA is hiring. I get it. I get it.

11:34 Number 8, 2008. Leave the memories alone. Don't change a thing. Also please don't

11:41 go to TNA. It's the Ric Flair retirement roar and well it's a somewhat grander affair

11:45 than poor Sean's lonely cowboy speech. There's a reunion of the Horsemen, HBK is

11:50 there we saw we for retiring the nature boy, the glare from Batista that's a secret first

11:55 step and Jericho vs Michael's one of the best feuds ever, and look it's tiny Charlotte.

11:59 It's all very sweet and monumental. Even if it's the only real thing I'm known

12:04 to happen on the episode it still, ugh, it gets me. It still gets me.

12:08 Number 7, 2015. Brock Lesnar literally F5'd Michael Cole out of his shoes. Out of his

12:13 shoes. Do I need to say anything more? I do? Okay fine. The fallout of the heist of the

12:17 century was loads of fun. Out of his shoes. Neville debuted, Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler

12:22 wrestled a stormer, Sheamus returned looking like Foghorn Leghorn's angry teenage son

12:27 and John Cena held his first US Invitational. Good good stuff from top to bottom.

12:33 Number 6, 2001. Ah yes, the roar after Mania X7, the greatest mania of all time. The show

12:38 where Steve Austin teased turning face again, don't play with my heart, before cementing

12:43 his heel turn with a You People promo. There's a bloody as hell cage match with The Rock,

12:48 so gruelling he needed to film the Scorpion King in order to recover from it, and of course,

12:52 the formation of the two man power trip. Bonus points for Vince mocking Texans by strutting

12:56 around in a cowboy hat like the big camp loon that he is.

12:59 Number 5, 2017. A good roar with four great moments, but what moments they were. Kurt

13:04 Angle has announced as the new glassy eyed GM of Monday Night Raw, everyone's just

13:08 very happy to see him. The Revival made their main roster debut and had pretty much their

13:12 only great night on the main roster in dismantling the New Day, Finn Balor's big old dick made

13:17 its return, and best of all, genuinely, one of the best promos of the last decade. Roman's

13:22 "This is my yard now" promo. Just phenomenal crowd work. Boo this dog, boo him.

13:28 Number 4, 2002. A significant roar in lots of ways. First of all, Hulk Hogan gets an

13:33 incredible ovation from the Canadian fans, further cementing WWE's plans to whack the

13:37 big belt on him a few weeks later at Backlash. Thanks for that Canada. Linda McMahon announces

13:42 the first brand extension, something the company would have a Ross and Rachel relationship

13:46 with forever more. Hogan and Rock wrestled Hall and Nash in the main event, and oh yeah,

13:50 this wheelbarrow of whale meat debuted. An important day at the office then.

13:55 Number 3, 2014. What an episode of Raw. Two title Danny makes his victory speech, Paige

14:00 winning the Divas Championship in a f***ing debut no less, Rusev debuting, RVD returning

14:05 to the company, Evolution brawling with the Shield, and of course a haunting segment looking

14:10 back where Ultimate Warrior delivers his own eulogy, talking about Hart beating a final

14:15 beat less than 24 hours before his actual death.

14:18 Number 2, 1998. Most would argue that 1998 was the single best calendar year WWE ever

14:24 had, and the roar after Mania 14 certainly was indicative of that, cementing in place

14:28 those who'd come to be the tentpoles of the Attitude Era. Steve Austin was coronated

14:33 WWF Champion, featuring the debut of the Big Eagle Belt, aka the best ever belt, Austin

14:38 vs McMahon kicks up a gear, The Rock becomes the leader of the nation, and Triple H becomes

14:43 new ruler in chief of DX, adding the New Age Outlaws, and of course X-Pac shortly before

14:48 he cut his awesome shoot promo on Eric Bischoff. Like it genuinely seems WWF has planned out

14:53 the rest of the Attitude Era from this roar alone.

14:56 And Number 1, 2013. The show that kicked off the modern tradition of the post Mania Raw

15:02 being the funnest show of the year. The fans took a really good episode of Raw and made

15:06 it great, turning Fandango into a short lived phenomenon, destroying an Orton vs Sheamus

15:12 match in the funniest possible way, popping like crazy when Wade Barrett won the IC title,

15:17 also when Ryback turned heel, oh much better than WrestleMania 29, it's not even f***ing

15:23 funny.
