00:00 Kate Middleton and Prince William's split was the best thing that happened to them, claims royal expert.
00:05 A royal expert has shared their belief that Kate Middleton and Prince William's brief split in 2007
00:11 was the best thing that happened to them, as it laid the foundation for their extremely happy and secure marriage.
00:16 When Kate Middleton and Prince William split up briefly before their engagement,
00:20 it gave them the opportunity to see what life would be like without one another
00:24 and laid the foundation for what appears to be an extremely happy and secure marriage.
00:28 A royal expert has claimed, according to Ginny Bond, the couple's marriage is founded on an enduring friendship
00:34 that was only strengthened by their split.
00:36 As we all know, even the relationships that look like some of the happiest on the outside
00:40 can be fraught with trouble behind closed doors.
00:42 Whether it's a couple sharing only their happiest moments on social media,
00:45 or in the case of Prince William and Kate Middleton, making sure to smile while in public,
00:50 the private troubles of any relationship can quite easily be covered up.
00:54 That's likely why there was such confusion and uproar when, in 2007, just four years before their lavished royal wedding,
01:00 Prince William and Kate Middleton called it quits, briefly.
01:04 After a few years of dating, and even after Kate became the first of William's girlfriends
01:08 ever to be introduced to his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth, the couple split up.
01:12 As to the reason why, many rumors swirled, including one which blamed King Charles T.
01:17 and Queen Elizabeth for advising William not to hurry into anything with Kate and another,
01:22 perhaps sweeter, one that believed William was giving Catherine a choice to back out of life as a royal.
01:27 Speaking about the breakup years later in their official 2010 engagement interview,
01:31 William recalled, "We were both very young. We were finding ourselves.
01:34 It was very much trying to find our own way and we were growing up."
01:38 Kate also said, "I, at the time, wasn't very happy about it.
01:41 But actually it made me a stronger person."
01:43 Royal expert and former BBC correspondent Jenny Bond agrees with Kate that the split
01:48 was a good decision for the couple.
01:49 Speaking to OKHU, Jenny explained,
01:52 "I think one of the best things they did was essentially to have a divorce before they got married.
01:57 The short time they spent apart made them see what life would be like without one another.
02:01 I think it laid the foundation for what appears to be an extremely happy and secure marriage."
02:06 Being dropped must have hit Catherine's self-confidence at the time,
02:09 but she has since grown as a woman, as a wife, a mother, and as a future queen who
02:13 would have been watching her husband perform on the world stage last week with enormous pride.
02:17 The time apart helped the couple, Bond believes, to create a stronger relationship that could
02:21 withstand more scrutiny than it could have before.
02:24 This, according to the expert, has been especially important following Prince
02:27 Harry stepping down as a senior royal and moving his family to Le.
02:31 "There are so few people that members of the royal family can turn to for advice,
02:35 comfort or just to let off steam with," Bond said.
02:38 "I'm sure that William and Catherine are a great support to one another and that Catherine is the
02:42 most incredible source of encouragement for William. The marriage is founded on an enduring
02:46 friendship and I'm sure William has called on the strength of that friendship to help him come to
02:50 terms with the loss of his wayman, his brother." The expert also praised William and Kate's
02:55 approach to parenting while one or the other is away on overseas royal duties.
02:59 Speaking about William's recent trip to New York, which helped him cope amid an event that
03:04 might have been too painful for him, she said, "I'm sure William would have done his utmost to
03:08 FaceTime Kate and the children to keep them in touch with what was going on and, in particular,
03:13 to show the children that they remain his priority wherever his work takes him.
03:17 They certainly try to arrange their work schedules so that one of them can do the school run.
03:21 William likes cooking but isn't very good. I'm sure he can rustle up supper for the
03:25 children when necessary though. He's a modern dad, quite different to his own father and while they
03:30 have a nanny and help in the house, they give the impression that they like to do things for
03:33 themselves like any normal family. It's a great example for the children who are being brought
03:38 up in a safe bubble of love, laughter and something approaching normality."
