00:02 Is that something that he is aware of?
00:04 Hard to know.
00:07 It's hard to know.
00:08 Bruce Willis' wife, Emma Hemming,
00:10 shares a health update about her husband
00:13 in an emotional appearance on the Today Show.
00:16 The 45-year-old opens up in her first televised interview
00:20 about Bruce's battle with frontotemporal dementia, or FTD.
00:25 Sitting down with Hoda Kotb, the model,
00:27 explains how the disease has impacted
00:30 the couple's two daughters.
00:32 You know, what I'm learning is that dementia is hard.
00:35 It's hard on the person diagnosed.
00:37 It's also hard on the family.
00:39 And that is no different for Bruce or myself or our girls.
00:43 And when they say that this is a family disease,
00:47 it really is.
00:48 Emma also notes that it's not clear
00:51 if Bruce is aware of his condition.
00:54 Does he know what's going on?
00:56 Is that something that he is aware of?
00:58 Hard to know.
01:01 It's hard to know.
01:02 She also gets emotional when asked
01:04 how the diagnosis impacted her.
01:07 I think it was the blessing and the curse, you know,
01:10 to sort of finally understand what was happening
01:15 so that I can be into the acceptance of what is.
01:20 It doesn't make it any less painful,
01:24 but just being in the acceptance is,
01:28 and just being in the know of what is happening to Bruce
01:34 just makes it a little bit easier.
01:37 But Emma also shares that her family is finding joy
01:41 in the everyday moments together.
01:43 I mean, honestly, he is the gift that keeps on giving.
01:46 Love, patience, resilience, so much.
01:53 And he's teaching me and our whole,
01:56 I mean, you know, for me to be out here doing this,
01:58 this is not my comfort zone,
01:59 but like this is the power of Bruce.
02:03 Back in February, Emma, Bruce's ex-wife, Demi Moore,
02:06 along with their three children,
02:08 opened up together about Bruce's heartbreaking battle.
02:11 A statement released at the time read,
02:14 "Since we announced Bruce's diagnosis of aphasia
02:17 in spring 2022, Bruce's condition has progressed
02:21 and we now have a more specific diagnosis,
02:25 frontotemporal dementia, known as FTD.
02:28 Unfortunately, challenges with communication
02:31 are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces."
02:35 The family continued, "While this is painful,
02:37 it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis."
