04:02 Every year, Preston Pride honours a community hero.

04:06 And this year, Neil Darby,

04:09 you are the recipient of that award.

04:12 That is due to the work that you fantastically did last year,

04:17 but also for putting the LGBT map firmly on Preston Pride.

05:19 Today, the community of Preston

05:23 has come together to recognise,

05:27 celebrate and support

05:30 our LGBTQ+ community.

05:34 And as a mayor of Preston,

05:37 I couldn't be more prouder than that.

05:40 I'm honoured to attend the 10th annual Preston Pride event

05:47 and the first Preston Pride with a parade,

05:51 which was wonderful to see.

05:54 This event is delivered year on year

05:58 by a small group of committed volunteers,

06:02 Preston citizens,

06:04 who are dedicated to ensuring

06:07 we have this annual opportunity

06:10 to support our community.

06:13 I'm proud of this great city

06:16 and our diverse community

06:19 that makes us who we are.

06:23 An event like this

06:25 is so important to show to our residents

06:28 and visitors

06:30 that this is a place

06:32 where all people are welcome

06:36 free to be who they are

06:39 and to love who they love.

06:42 We know there is still a long way to go

06:45 for these communities

06:47 who are subject to discrimination and marginalisation.

06:51 And so today, let us remember

06:53 why Pride began and is still needed.

06:57 Pride events are about human rights,

07:01 empowerment,

07:03 visibility,

07:05 and community solidarity.
