00:00 shouldn't we all just be more accepting of whatever body you
00:05 choose to be in that should be your choice. Oprah Winfrey is
00:09 getting candid about Ozempic and weight loss. The 68 year
00:13 old recently hosted the state of weight panel as part of
00:17 Oprah Daily's the life you want series at the Hearst Tower in
00:21 New York City. During the open conversation, she shared her
00:24 thoughts on the latest Hollywood weight loss trend.
00:27 The FDA approved prescription drug for people with type two
00:30 diabetes. Even when I first started hearing about the
00:34 weight loss drugs at the same time, I was going through knee
00:37 surgery and I felt I've gotta do this on my own. I've gotta
00:42 do this on my own because if I take the drug, that's the easy
00:45 way out. Now, I hear about triple G and I'm like, okay,
00:49 but but but there's a part of me that that feels like I think
00:53 a lot of people felt with or feel with bariatric surgery
00:57 that I've gotta do it the hard way. I've gotta keep climbing
01:00 the mountains. I gotta keep suffering. I gotta do that
01:03 because otherwise I somehow cheated myself. I felt like
01:06 that. So now we're shaming people for how they lose weight.
01:10 Despite not addressing if she has ever or would ever try the
01:14 medication, also known as Wegovy or Monjaro, Oprah went on
01:18 to slam people who criticize anyone who takes it. Allow
01:22 people to lose however they wanna lose whether they're GLP
01:27 winners, whether they're climbing Mount Everest, whether
01:30 they're whatever your choice is for your body and your weight
01:33 health, it should be yours to own and not to be shamed about
01:37 it as a person who's been shamed for so many years. I'm
01:40 just sick of it. I'm just sick of it. I'm just sick of it. The
01:43 media mogul was joined on stage by obesity specialists, Doctor
01:47 Fatima Cody Stanford and Doctor Melanie J and psychologist
01:51 Doctor Rachel Goldman and went on to reflect on the stigma
01:55 surrounding weight loss and weight gain. One of the things
01:58 that I've been so ashamed, shamed myself about and was
02:03 shamed in the tabloids every week about for 25 years is not
02:09 having the willpower and I think you know that is there is
02:16 a distinction between mindset which we're now hearing the
02:18 brain tells you a certain thing about how you process food
02:23 versus the willpower. Can we talk about that? Absolutely.
02:26 It's her to see you ostracize in the way that you've been
02:30 because this isn't about willpower. Thank you for
02:32 saying that. I have talked about those pathways. So
02:35 shamed right every single week and it's not it's not it's not
02:39 your fault in those pathways. You guys may not remember any
02:41 of the words I said, but did willpower come out of my mouth
02:46 willpower did not because it's not in the pathways. You guys
02:48 it's just not in the science of this disease. This isn't me
02:52 just making people feel good about it not being a willpower
02:55 issue. It literally is not part of that regulation those
02:58 pathways.
03:01 You.
03:04 You.
03:07 You.
03:10 (upbeat music)
