00:00 Reba McEntire takes Blake Shelton's chair ahead of her The Voice debut.
00:04 Reba McEntire's debut season as a coach on The Voice is around the corner, and the
00:08 country music queen is taking now-former coach Blake Shelton's iconic red chair on the
00:13 smash hit NBC competition show.
00:15 McEntire shared her strategy to emerge victorious in her first-ever coaching season in a new
00:20 Voice promo on Tuesday afternoon, September 19, as she took the chair once occupied by
00:25 Shelton, the show's winningest coach.
00:27 McEntire said, "What I plan on doing is, I'm channeling Blake.
00:30 I'm gonna win this sucker.
00:32 I just want to say I am thrilled to be sitting in Blake's chair."
00:35 McEntire told her fellow celebrity coaches of the upcoming season, Gwen Stefani, Neal
00:39 Horan and John Legend, "I hope I do it justice.
00:43 Maybe someone can finally class up that chair."
00:45 Legend quipped in return.
00:46 He added in an interview that the new Voice coach has accomplished a lot in her massively
00:50 successful career, from her sitcom to her music, her magnetic personality and everything
00:55 in between.
00:56 Reba McEntire, who is set to release a lifestyle book and accompanying album this fall, will
01:00 serve as a coach for the first time, returning to the show after serving as Mega Mentor in
01:05 Shelton's final season.
01:06 She was also a battle advisor during the first season of the show in 2011.
01:10 Season 24 of The Voice is set to premiere on September 25 and September 26 on NBC, streaming
01:17 on Peacock.

01:19 It was previously announced that Reba McEntire will be replacing Blake Shelton on The Voice
01:24 after the "God Gave Me You" singer exited the show last season.
01:27 Now, McEntire is speaking out about taking over for Shelton, telling Newsweek, "It's
01:32 a lot of pressure because nobody can replace Blake Shelton.
01:34 He's a huge personality and a wonderful person.
01:37 So I'm just getting in there trying to have fun and represent country music as best I
01:41 can."
01:42 The country music legend went on to praise the show's crew, saying, "It's a well-oiled
01:46 machine, so getting in at this time is marvelous.
01:49 Everybody knows the game plan, from the crew, the producers.
01:52 Many on the show is so nice, so sweet, and have been so helpful.
01:55 I'm loving it."
01:57 McEntire then shared why kind of judge fans can expect her to avoid being and noted how
02:01 she opted not to join the series prior to its debut in 2011.
02:04 "I can't be a mean judge," she said.
02:07 "I mean, when I turned it down 15 years ago, when they wanted me to do The Voice,
02:11 I said, 'I can't tell anybody that they're horrible.
02:13 I can't say to somebody, 'Well, is your mom ever going to meet you at the bus station?
02:17 Because you're going home.'
02:18 I can't do that."
02:19 While the experience is a new one for McEntire, she revealed that fellow coaches John Legend,
02:24 Gwen Stefani, and Niall Horan have provided her with a lot of advice and support.
02:28 "I learned from John, Gwen, and Niall," she shared.
02:31 "Every day that we're working on The Voice, I'm learning more from them how to let 'em
02:34 down easy if they don't get picked up, coach 'em, and if you can give them any advice
02:39 whatsoever."
02:40 She continued, "Like if none of the coaches turn around, they're going home immediately.
02:44 And so it's good just to say, 'If you want to come back again, try it again next
02:47 season.
02:48 Find a song that suits you, one that you're really comfortable with and that really shows
02:51 your talent, give them advice and encourage them to come back.'"
02:54 McEntire also offered her thoughts on what might have happened to her had she been a
02:58 young singer trying out for The Voice.
03:00 "I don't think anybody would turn around for me," she said.
03:02 "Honestly, I don't.
03:03 If they would, I'd be thrilled to pieces.
03:05 But what an opportunity these kids are having, and some of them aren't kids," she went
03:09 on to say.
03:10 "Some are 16, 17 years old, and some people that come on The Voice are in their 30s and
03:15 want to give it a go and are having fun with it," she added.
03:18 "But what an opportunity to be seen by that many people all over the world for just a
03:21 few minutes, whereas it would have taken me years at my concert levels, too."
