00:00 >> I'm telling him to get off me, and he won't get off.
00:02 >> I was pushing him away, pushing him away, and he wasn't backing off at all.
00:09 >> What I seriously refute are these very, very serious criminal allegations.
00:15 >> Brand vehemently denying all the allegations, posting a statement one day before the documentary
00:20 "Russell Brand in Plain Sight" aired Saturday on BBC's Channel 4, which included actor reenactments
00:26 from his accusers.
00:27 >> I felt like I was groomed for sex.
00:32 >> These allegations pertain to the time when I was working in the mainstream.
00:35 I was very, very promiscuous.
00:36 Now, during that time of promiscuity, the relationships I had were absolutely always
00:41 consensual.
00:42 I was always transparent about that then.
00:44 To see that transparency metastasized into something criminal that I absolutely deny
00:50 makes me question, is there another agenda at play?
00:53 >> Crisis communication expert Molly McPherson breaks down Brand's preemptive denial.
00:57 >> Russell Brand's message is a mix of denial, provocation, and framing himself away from
01:04 the allegations.
01:06 In that video statement, he did everything he could not to attach his name or his actions
01:13 with the victims.
01:15 As a distraction mechanism, he pointed the blame to the media and the industry at large.
01:21 >> I like to have it off, right?
01:24 Why not?
01:25 Yeah, that's true, the idea of sex.
01:30 >> The accusations are based on the testimony of five women and allegedly took place between
01:34 2006 and 2013.
01:38 Brand was married to Katy Perry in 2010 for 14 months.
01:41 Katy later revealed that Brand ended their marriage via text message opening up about
01:45 their split in her 2012 documentary, Part of Me.
01:48 >> That fairy tale that I had is not true for me right now.
01:52 >> Yeah, but you're still missing.
01:55 >> I'm not.
01:59 >> News of allegations against Brand, a self-proclaimed sex addict, broke shortly after actor Danny
02:04 Masterson was sentenced to 30 years in prison for two rapes that both occurred in 2003.
02:09 >> Russell Brand is likely following along what happened to him.
02:13 And knowing that Masterson received 30 years to life, Russell Brand decided to drill down
02:20 on denial.
02:22 But denial alone isn't going to cut it.
02:25 His representation dropped him after these allegations were made public.
02:29 However, it is interesting to know that they were aware of these allegations back in 2020.
