As the year winds down and the days get cooler, your summer garden may begin to fade.
00:05
However, there are many ways to keep your garden vibrant through the fall months.
00:10
In the fall, those rich colors, you think of those lovely amber colors and purples and
00:16
yellows, those deep yellows, those are just the colors you're craving at this time of
00:21
year.
00:22
Jenny Rose Carey is an expert gardener and author from Philadelphia.
00:26
She says to plant annuals, or flowers that survive one growing season, right before the
00:31
end of spring to have them blooming by the end of summer.
00:34
So those are your asters, you know, those wonderful, often purple or pink daisies with
00:40
a yellow center.
00:42
Some of them are white with a yellow center.
00:44
Goldenrods, which can be a bit aggressive in gardens, but there's some new petite ones
00:49
coming along.
00:50
If you live somewhere where the first frost of the season typically happens before Halloween,
00:55
consider planting hardy or cold-tolerant plants.
00:58
Things like Emperor of China, Clara Curtis, Sheffield Pink, they are really hardy plants.
01:06
So the trick is, they will be big plants unless you, up until the 4th of July, nip the tops
01:13
out several times and then that keeps them compact.
01:17
If you don't specifically plant for fall, you can also trim your summer flowers to keep
01:21
them healthy and extend their lifespan.
01:23
The more you do that on a regular basis, the more your plant will continue to bloom through
01:31
to fall.
01:32
These steps should give you a vibrant garden until winter weather arrives.
