The devastated Libyan city of Derna on Monday, a week after catastrophic floods killed thousands
00:08
and destroyed buildings. Search and rescue teams continued the grim search for bodies
00:13
or survivors in the muddy wasteland of smashed buildings, crushed cars and uprooted trees.
00:19
One survivor said he woke to a scream in the night to find his neighbor's houses flooded.
00:24
"We are here in the fourth floor, this is my apartment, Abdel Salam's apartment, in the
00:31
fourth floor. The water reached the meter here. Here we took the families and raised
00:39
them up, we raised them up to the stairs and we raised them to the roofs."
00:46
International rescue divers have begun recovering bodies from the port of Derna. It's now confirmed
00:50
that many are trapped 12 meters underwater, some in their cars.

"The thing was really striking for our team that our people are shocked and traumatized.
01:03
So even in the health centers at the moment, either the staff died or they are not able
01:10
to work."
01:11
International aid efforts are slowly gathering pace. A team of French rescuers has set up
01:16
a field hospital in Derna, but the risk is high for aid workers. On Sunday, four Greek
01:22
and three Libyan emergency workers were killed in a road accident in the city.
