‘I could see this green mass’: Tim The Yowie Man talks to ‘ghost’ eyewitness

Canberra Times columnist Tim The Yowie Man investigates a mystery ‘green ghost’ sighting at Lake George, north-east of Canberra.

00:00 Mention Lake George or Wirrawa as the traditional custodians refer to it

00:05 and the word mystery springs to mind for most.

00:09 Over the last 200 years or so, the enigmatic lake just to the north of Canberra

00:14 has been a hotbed of strange happenings.

00:18 Everything from mysterious fish deaths

00:22 to UFOs spotted hovering over its waters at night.

00:27 Now, according to a bunch of locals who recently hosted a bonfire

00:33 much bigger than this one by the lake's foreshore,

00:37 you can now add ghostly green lights to that list.

00:42 So Scott, this is the location where the unusual natural phenomena

00:47 was seen in your film. Tell us about it.

00:49 Yeah, this is the spot that I was standing. I just came around to take a photo of

00:53 we had a little bit of a barbecue party under the trees in a large, large bonfire

00:58 and I could see this green mass up in the tree

01:03 and I decided to, I'd taken a few photos, I decided to take a quick video of it

01:08 just while I was over here looking back at the crowd

01:11 and I'm following it and it just came out from the trees right across in front

01:14 of us here and I followed it with the camera, it was

01:18 in front the whole way and then it just shot up with the

01:21 sparks and embers and smoke and flame and right up into the sky like

01:25 a couple hundred feet up into the sky. Did others see it? Yeah, so

01:28 so there was a few people including my own mother was on the other side

01:32 and they were noting the green mass in the tree as well.

01:35 So what was your first reaction? What did you think it was?

01:39 Good question. It was a bit, it was a bit eerie because it was moving across to

01:42 the flames. Yeah. So you haven't seen anything like

01:46 that before? No, not at all, not at all. It was, you

01:49 know, it's quite a quite a definite glowing mass of green. Yeah. And in

01:54 talking to those that were here that night, have

01:56 there been various theories bandied around as to what it could be from what

02:00 ghosts to swamp gas or whatever? Yeah,

02:04 certainly a couple people were not so joking about ghosts, you know, they were

02:07 saying that here on the lake there's so many stories

02:10 and I don't know, it just was an interesting thought that maybe

02:12 maybe someone had been here before us, not sure. And there are,

02:17 you know, in this area there's the remains of some early huts which people

02:21 may have lived in. That's right, yeah. The original homesteads here were pretty

02:24 much right on the spot where we're looking now.

02:26 Yeah, yeah, makes you wonder. It does make you wonder. It's a bit of a mystery.

02:30 It's a bit of a mystery. Like everything by Lake George. Another one for the

02:33 mysterious Lake George. We're away, yet another mystery. That's

02:37 right, yeah. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of
