00:00 Bill O'Brien didn't have DeAndre Hopkins offensively on Sunday, but what'd you make of Billy O'Brien's
00:09 return to New England against the Eagles on Sunday?
00:13 You know, I thought it was really good.
00:14 I'm not going to get into comparing him to what happened last year or whatever, just
00:18 on judgment.
00:19 I thought that he had a very sound plan.
00:23 Mac Jones, at the end of the day, I think he was like third or fourth lowest time to
00:30 pass in the league this week.
00:32 Depth of target wasn't very big.
00:35 You look at his quarterback chart and there's a lot of stuff within five yards around the
00:39 line of scrimmage.
00:40 But that's just what you got to do when you have a complete mismatch of weight class up
00:46 front between the Patriots offensive line and the Eagles defensive line, which was as
00:50 advertised pretty much.
00:53 Jalen Carter was awesome.
00:55 Fletcher Cox was awesome.
00:56 Jordan Davis was awesome.
00:58 Hassan Redick.
00:59 But he did a good job, they did a good job minimizing that.
01:03 I thought they took the appropriate amount of shot plays and got it protected.
01:07 One that I'm sure Mac Jones would love to have back was the underthrown ball to Kendrick
01:12 Warren down the right sideline that Darius Slade broke up.
01:15 Look, it was underthrown.
01:16 The play was there.
01:17 It could have been a touchdown.
01:18 Mac put too much air under it.
01:20 That's one of those plays that you talk about, like, you know, to win a game like that, you
01:24 got to hit those plays.
01:26 And you know, so I thought it was about as expected that they couldn't run the ball at
01:33 all.
01:34 Surprised me a little bit.
01:35 I don't know if Stevenson was under the weather, but I did not think he looked good as a running
01:39 back.
01:40 He was much more indecisive than I've seen him before.
01:45 I thought Ezekiel Elliott was the quote-unquote better running back in this game.
01:51 The only real, and I'm sure the coaches made these decisions based on what they see in
01:57 practice and I'm sure they had a reason for doing this, but I just don't understand why
02:01 so much time for Keishon Booty.
02:04 Why not move Kendrick Warren over there?
02:08 Might be because they don't think Kendrick can handle it.
02:10 It's very possible given that he's still having a plethora of route running issues to this
02:16 day, especially on Sunday, and it's the reason why he doesn't play more than he does.
02:20 You know, and why not put Demario Douglas in the Kendrick Warren spot?
02:26 And I didn't love how much Ezekiel Elliott was sort of used in the quick game.
02:31 Like, you know, Ty Montgomery is fast.
02:33 Demario Douglas is fast.
02:35 I mean, you know, Zeke did okay, but you know, it just goes to further the notion that the
02:44 Patriots are not fast enough and they have the ability to get faster and they just decide
02:51 not to do it.
02:52 Overall, I really liked what I saw out of Billy and I'm optimistic that, you know, get
02:58 the line healthy, give him a running game.
03:00 Yeah, he's going to cook up some nice stuff.

03:32 You know, Greg, my thoughts on Bill O'Brien is just the overall option operation mostly
03:42 worked, right?
03:43 I mean, it looked like an NFL offense, which was nice to see.
03:47 And I agree with you.
03:48 You said earlier, Matt kind of got his confidence rolling a little bit in that second quarter.
03:51 And I thought it was really telling after that first quarter that Matt came back in
03:56 the second quarter and played as well as he did, because I don't think we see that last
04:00 year.
04:01 I do think that's not only an offensive coordinator, offensive staff problem, but I do think that
04:06 was a Mack problem last year and he's talked about it.
04:08 He got down on himself.
04:09 He got too emotional, all that stuff.
04:12 He was able to mostly tuck that aside and, you know, really kind of battle the adversity
04:18 early in this game, which was nice to see.
04:20 And I think some of that is the belief he has in Bill O'Brien that he did not have in
04:25 that staff last year.
04:27 I thought, you know, O'Brien made some good adjustments.
04:29 He ran a number of bunch formations, which worked and created separation for parts of
04:34 this game.
04:35 That was a factor, especially in the second quarter.
04:39 And I really think, you know, look, it's similar to Mack, where like if you're looking at this
04:45 offense overall and you're saying to yourself, like you have no run game, I think people
04:50 are overlooking that.
04:52 This offense on Sunday was one dimensional against one of the best defenses in the league
04:59 last year and against arguably the best pass rush this season.
05:04 Now, of course, we got to play the year out.
05:06 But if you're predicting and you're projecting what this defense is going to do, they knew
05:12 that they couldn't run the ball.
05:14 Everybody knew it.
05:15 I knew it.
05:16 You knew it, Greg.
05:17 Everybody knew it.
05:18 The Patriots could not run the ball on Sunday.
05:20 And so a one dimensional offense.
05:23 And they still I thought, you know, I still thought that the plays were there to be made,
05:28 which I think says a lot about Bill O'Brien.
05:30 Given the lack of the run game and all the questions that I brought up with Mack, the
05:34 same exists for Bill O'Brien.
05:36 And the plays were there.
05:37 Like I know we don't want to do it too often because it's unfair to Matt Patricia.
05:42 Greg and I have said it before.
05:43 That was a Belichick problem.
05:45 Patricia, no win situation for that guy.
05:48 But imagine all those circumstances happening last year to this team against Philadelphia.
05:53 Do they even score six points?
05:55 Do they even have a chance to score a touchdown at any point in that game?
05:58 So I think that says a lot about O'Brien.
06:01 I will say this, though.
