Waterspouts spin up along Carolina coasts as Hurricane Lee waves reach shore

While the North Carolina Outer Banks start to deal with big waves from Hurricane Lee, a cold front has caused waterspouts to spin offshore.

00:00 As Hurricane Lee approaches the Carolinas,

00:02 even though it will be several

00:04 100 miles offshore,

00:05 we expect to see some of this.

00:07 Now that is a tornadic water spout

00:10 that is several 100 yards off the

00:12 coast here in Rodanthe, North Carolina.

00:14 You can tell it's a severe water

00:16 spout by the large size of it and

00:19 the parent thunderstorm that is with it.

00:21 As well.

00:22 Now this is expected to continue

00:24 to stay offshore, not be a factor,

00:27 but it is very rare to according

00:29 to the local fire rescue.

00:31 Officials here to actually see

00:32 a water spout on the ocean side.

00:34 They tend to see it more on the sound side,

00:37 but nonetheless,

00:38 as Hurricane Lee approaches and some

00:40 of this more turbulent weather

00:42 starts to impact land,

00:43 we can see some of these water spouts spin up.

00:46 It's pretty amazing to see,

00:48 and a lot of folks are here taking it all in.
