Coastal homes in North Carolina at risk as Lee churns in the Atlantic

Coastal erosion caused by Hurricane Lee is putting a number of homes in Dare County at risk of damage or even destruction.

00:00 conditions here along the outer banks are expected to be at their worst within

00:04 the next 24 hours and as you can see behind me the seas are pretty angry and

00:09 these homes are precariously close to the ocean especially this one that we're

00:13 looking at several of the homes here in Rodanthe North Carolina are in jeopardy

00:18 of serious damage or possible collapse there are several homes in the outer

00:23 banks that are condemned because of the onslaught of hurricanes one after the

00:28 other over the last several years we've also got some houses down here to the

00:32 south that also are not looking so great and are right on the water these two are

00:36 abandoned the officials have been trying to get folks out of the homes that are

00:41 along the immediate coastline and pretty much that has been the case they're also

00:44 urging people to stay out of the water we're also going to be watching the

00:49 backwater the ocean wash as we head into tomorrow this is a car that was driving

00:54 through some of that ocean wash where the swells and the surf actually goes

00:58 into the roadways here in the outer banks making driving very dangerous they

01:03 think that will be a big concern as we head into Thursday morning for high

01:06 tide around a 7 a.m. and possibly could see some effects lingering into Friday

01:10 as well they have been doing a great job trying to warn people to stay out of the

01:14 water here there are signs posted all along the outer banks telling people to

01:18 get out of the water don't go in it's life-threatening rip currents and of

01:22 course very dangerous surf conditions as well the peak of all of this should max

01:27 out sometime tomorrow and even into possibly Friday reporting along the
