00:05 This is the advice from an UMNO youth leader to party members who are trying

00:09 to blame rival-turned-allies DAP for its failures at the recent state polls.

00:13 The youth leader, who declined to be named, said Malay voters rejected UMNO

00:18 during the last general election even before it began working with DAP.

00:22 In GE15, UMNO only secured 26 of the 120 seats it contested.

00:28 Recently, UMNO Supreme Council member Isham Jalil called on UMNO to distance

00:32 itself from DAP in future elections. The youth leader, who spoke to FMT,

00:37 conceded there was unhappiness over UMNO's alliance with DAP.

00:40 However, he said UMNO can better explain its tie-up with its former rivals.

00:45 This includes telling grassroots members that UMNO will serve as a check and balance to DAP

00:50 and the government.

00:51 Another division leader, who declined to be named, had similar views.

00:56 The leader said there were other reasons voters were unhappy with UMNO,
