Greens strike deal to pass Labor’s housing bill

The Greens have brokered a deal with Labor to pass the Albanese government’s $10 billion housing bill but said they would continue to fight for a rent freeze.

00:10 year on public and community housing directly out of government revenue, the Greens are

00:17 in a position where we will support the government's housing legislation.

00:22 What we weren't able to secure is a freeze and cap on rent increases.

00:26 And the bottom line is we weren't able to convince the Labor Party to care about the

00:29 one-third of this country who rents.

00:31 But the message I want to send to the millions of renters across this country is this.

00:37 We will not stop fighting.

00:39 We will not rest until we get a cap and freeze on rent increases.

00:43 We know your pain.

00:44 We know that every time your rent goes up that means either eviction onto the street

00:48 or making tough choices at the supermarket.

00:50 We know the anxiety and fear that comes with that lease renewal.

00:53 The Greens are the party of renters.

00:55 We are the party now who represents renters in Parliament.
