Hello and welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:05
So it's been a fairly hot week across the UK with temperatures climbing into the 30s
00:11
for now five consecutive days in a row and today likely to see that may be made to six.
00:17
And this is all due to the fact we're under a very hot air mass that's been brought up
00:20
from the south. As we go into next week you'll start to see a few more weather fronts on
00:24
the charts than of late and that's because we're starting to see cold fronts making their
00:28
way south eastwards bringing some slightly cooler air from the northwest and helping
00:33
those temperatures come back down towards average.
00:36
But let's go back to today and have a look at the details. So we've seen a fair bit of
00:40
mist fog low cloud across the north and west to start today. We've got an area of rain
00:46
and drizzle affecting the far northwest of Scotland. Plenty of sunshine though as we
00:50
head into this afternoon and this is going to help an area of heavy showers and thunderstorms
00:55
developing across central parts of England through today. And there is a yellow thunderstorm
01:00
warning out for this. But due to the nature of thunderstorms even if you are outside of
01:06
that warning area but close by you could still see a thunderstorm through today. It's going
01:12
to be another very warm or hot day as well especially across the southeast. We could
01:19
see highs into the low 30s around 33 as a max for today.
01:24
So as we go through this evening those showers will slowly fade away continuing for a time
01:29
as well across Northern Ireland and into southern Scotland but slowly becoming drier. So still
01:34
with some outbreaks of rain and drizzle across the far northwest of Scotland. As we go into
01:39
the early hours of Sunday there's an area of heavy showers and thunderstorms pushing
01:44
up into the southwest. So there's a chance if you live here you could be woken up by
01:48
a thunderstorm into the early hours of Sunday. But this is all during what's going to be
01:53
another warm and humid night. So another uncomfortable night for sleeping.
02:00
Into the start of Sunday then we'll see those showers making their way northeastward so
02:05
into Wales the Midlands and later on further north into northern England Northern Ireland
02:10
and southern Scotland. Now these showers could band together and we'll see some thunderstorms
02:17
and a risk of hail as well as some strong gusty winds. So do keep an eye on our website
02:22
our app and social media for the latest updates tomorrow on where the showers are because
02:27
as I said the nature of these showers and thunderstorms does mean that they are a bit
02:32
hit and miss in places and even if you are outside of warning areas you still are at
02:36
risk of seeing a thunderstorm in these regions through tomorrow.
02:40
Best of the driest and brightest weather will be for eastern and southeastern parts of England
02:45
again on Sunday. This is where we'll see temperatures climbing into the 30s once more for what
02:50
will probably be the final day. So making that seven consecutive days of 30 degrees
02:56
Celsius recorded in the UK during September. Now as we go into Sunday evening those showers
03:03
will continue for a while so still further heavy showers thunderstorms for northern England
03:09
Northern Ireland and southern Scotland and with this band of rain and cloud across the
03:13
far northwest to elsewhere with clear spells we'll start to see some mist and fog developing
03:19
but with some low cloud pushing in for southwest England and parts of Wales too.
03:26
Thank you for listening and for all your latest weather updates do keep an eye on our social
03:30
media and check out our website for all the latest warnings in force. Bye for now.
