WDFNL GF: Merrivale wins B grade netball flag

Merrivale playing-coach Lucy Attrill speaks after her side won the WDFNL B grade decider.

00:06 Congratulations, you must be happy with that.

00:08 Thanks Matt, yeah stoked.

00:10 The girls worked really hard all season and just were really focused so we knew we'd put in all the hard work

00:15 and we just hoped that we could bring it today which they did.

00:18 They were amazing, they did so well.

00:20 What was the secret on court today? Was there anything that impressed or what did you do well?

00:23 No, we just wanted to be really focused.

00:26 We wanted to just make sure that if we didn't have the ball that we were applying as much pressure as we possibly could.

00:31 Grace, their shooter is just a really strong player so we knew we had to apply pressure down the court

00:36 to try and sort of stop it from getting in there as best we could.

00:39 And just to keep our goalies calm, you know, obviously not the most desirable weather for a goalie

00:46 and our goalies are great long-range shooters so we just wanted to really keep them calm

00:50 and give them the time that they needed to sort of work around to where they were comfortable

00:54 and they were brilliant too, they stood up today, it was great.

00:56 Did you get everything you wanted as a coach?

00:58 Yeah, yeah and more I think, and more.

01:01 At the start of the season, you know, we won this last year as well and we had a huge turnover with our players

01:08 and this is my first and only year I've ever coached so I really didn't know.

01:12 I just wanted improvement from the girls and for them to walk away knowing that they'd learnt something.

01:18 So for them to have worked this hard and just been this focused to get to this point, I'm so proud.

01:25 Oh my God, oh my God, I didn't expect it, I probably had wished I had played a bit better

01:31 but obviously I did my job so that's all I asked of myself and as everyone else,

01:36 just don't leave anything out there and yeah, we were really, really lucky to come away winners

01:40 against a great opposition.

01:42 Will you go again as coach now that you've won?

01:44 Not a chance, this is probably my last competitive game of netball so yeah, I'm thrilled.

01:50 It's a great way to finish.

01:51 Yeah, I know, it's crazy.

01:54 Yeah, amazing, stoked, stoked with the girls, really proud of them and we've got a couple more teams to play now.

01:59 We've won the under-17s today and unfortunately the 15s were unlucky but we'll just concentrate now

02:06 on getting home the girls and the senior footy this afternoon as well.
