02:18 - If it's gonna happen, it has to happen here.
02:20 - Who's sick?
02:26 - It's like that Demon Slayer episode.
02:28 - Ah, sweet, all the different lightsaber forms.
02:33 - This is exciting.
02:39 - Oh, oh, it's like training to fight Grievous.
02:45 - Shut up, Hu Yang.
02:53 - The skill with the weapon comes
02:54 from your Mandalorian upbringing.
02:56 Those skills alone will not be enough to defeat our enemy.
02:59 - Kanan also helped.
03:00 - Learning to wield the force takes a deeper commitment.
03:03 - She's gonna be so force sensitive by the end of this,
03:08 and I'm gonna be like ha to everyone
03:10 who gave me crap about it.
03:12 - Here, put this on.
03:14 - We're gonna do the classic.
03:16 - You're nothing but potential, kid.
03:17 - You're joking.
03:18 - You've literally seen Ezra do this before.
03:20 You've got this.
03:21 - Ah, sick old Jedi symbol.
03:24 - I want you to see with more than just your eyes.
03:28 - Feel the road, Ricky Bobby.
03:30 - Do you know where I am?
03:32 Next to Hu Yang, are you sure?
03:34 - Whoa.
03:36 - How'd she project her voice like that?
03:38 - Julliard.
03:38 - She can throw her voice.
03:40 (laughing)
03:41 - Drama school.
03:43 - Take in all that is around you.
03:44 - I love the mood of this.
03:49 - Follow my voice.
03:49 - I love the mood of this.
03:50 - Follow my voice.
03:51 - Hu Yang's falling asleep.
03:54 (laughing)
03:57 - I love this.
04:05 - And the sound design too, the surround.
04:11 - Classic martial arts movie, right?
04:12 - I was gonna say, that's Dave Filoni's favorite.
04:19 - Even the sword designs are just wonderful.
04:22 - I feel like Kendo swords.
04:23 - Got one.
04:29 - Oh, very good, Sabine.
04:33 - Very bad, Sabine.
04:36 - Don't let your rage get ahead of you, Sabine.
04:38 - Use the force.
04:44 - She can't, she never will, Michael.
04:46 - 'Cause she chooses not to.
04:48 - She sensed it.
04:49 - Oof.
04:54 - Ouch, sweep the leg.
04:56 - Anger and frustration are quick to give power.
04:59 - Yeah.
05:00 - But they also unbalance you.
05:01 - I'm not unbalanced, you're unbalanced.
05:04 - This is a good throwback to "Tales of the Jedi"
05:06 when Anakin was teaching Ahsoka how to handle-
05:08 - Good call.
05:10 - Really good call, yeah.
05:12 - Or it's just a classic trope.
05:14 - Eight wings.
05:18 - Also, we totally missed home one.
05:21 - Home one, there it is.
05:22 (laughing)
05:23 - Speaking of the devil.
05:25 - The Chancellor?
05:27 - She's waiting.
05:28 - Oh, my mother.
05:30 - Oh yes, has she aged?
05:32 - You look well, how's young Jason?
05:34 - Oh, Jason finally got mentioned.
05:36 - In fact, he's on board, somewhere.
05:40 - He's there, somewhere.
05:41 - Trouble with Chopper, no doubt.
05:43 - Have you thought about Kaden at all?
05:44 - I was attacked by Imperial forces
05:47 and Imperial loyalists, still working for Morgan Elsbeth.
05:50 - Outliers.
05:52 Former Imperials working throughout every level
05:55 of the new Republic government
05:57 have all taken an oath of loyalty.
05:59 - Except those ones.
06:00 - Long live the Empire doesn't sound like
06:02 the kind of loyalty we're looking for.
06:03 (laughing)
06:04 But I believe their activity speaks to a larger operation.
06:07 - Impossible. - Thrawn.
06:08 - Involving Thrawn.
06:09 - Thrawn.
06:10 - Grand Admiral Thrawn.
06:14 - No, Jason Thrawn.
06:15 (laughing)
06:16 - There are many Thrawns in the galaxy.
06:19 - Isn't this just another attempt
06:20 to gain new Republic resources
06:22 to aid in what has ultimately been your personal quest
06:25 to find Ezra Bridger?
06:26 - Is there something wrong with that?
06:27 - Were you ever in the war, Senator?
06:29 (laughing)
06:31 - No.
06:33 - Just sat back and waited to see who came out on top.
06:35 (laughing)
06:36 - Are you a bitch, Senator?
06:38 - Where are those balls, Senator?
06:43 - The Imperial fleet is scattered and broken.
06:45 They have no centralized command.
06:47 - Unless Thrawn returns.
06:48 - I don't know, I've seen The Mandalorian.
06:50 - Famous last words.
06:51 - Thrawn is not your typical Imperial officer.
06:53 - No, he's not.
06:56 - I know because I fought against him.
06:57 - He's nuanced.
07:00 Some people argue that he's a good guy.
07:01 (laughing)
07:02 - Grand Admiral Thrawn is dead.
07:04 Your friend, Ezra Bridger, heroically died with him.
07:07 - You don't know that.
07:08 - Oof, getting a rise out of her.
07:10 - I will say they've done a great job at making me happy
07:13 that Starkiller base blew up the New Republic
07:16 with all of her interactions with their government so far.
07:19 - Hey, Mom.
07:19 - Jason!
07:21 - He's less colorful.
07:22 - Is the jewel I see is gonna be a Jedi?
07:24 - He definitely got the human genes.
07:26 - It's okay, his hair is a little green.
07:27 - I wanna be a Jedi.
07:28 - He's saying he wants to be a Jedi.
07:32 - The music.
07:32 - He definitely wants to be more like his dad.
07:35 - I was hoping that the urgency of our situation
07:38 could expedite my training a bit.
07:40 - You don't get like a certificate, Sabine.
07:42 - You're not Luke Skywalker.
07:43 - Sorry. - Traffic school.
07:45 - I can't use the Force.
07:46 I don't feel it, not like you do.
07:49 - Soccer ball.
07:51 - Force resides in all living things, even you.
07:54 - So this is a you problem.
07:55 - If that's true, then why doesn't everyone use it?
07:58 - Talent is a factor.
07:59 - And midichlorians.
08:01 (laughing)
08:03 - Training and focus are what truly defines someone's success.
08:07 - Amen, sister.
08:11 - Yes.
08:13 - Start small.
08:13 - I wanna be able to not lean for my drink.
08:17 - I'm going to give this my best.
08:19 - Why did she decide to train her though, you know?
08:23 Like what was it about her that she was like,
08:25 I'm going to train, I wanna know that specifically,
08:27 what went down there.
08:28 - I hope that we go back a little bit,
08:29 but I feel like part of it's a debt to both Kanan and Ezra.
08:32 - You both knew this wouldn't be easy.
08:35 - Well, what you said didn't help.
08:37 - The Jedi Order would not have accepted her.
08:40 - She is not an acceptable candidate.
08:42 - I only speak the truth.
08:44 - Standards which were proven over a millennia.
08:48 - And failed.
08:49 - Yeah, times have changed.
08:51 - I don't need Sabine to be a Jedi.
08:52 I need her to be herself.
08:56 - Wow.
08:57 - Oh, I'm like a Kraytian?
08:58 - You do come from a long line of non-traditional Jedi.
09:02 In that way, she fits right in.
09:05 - Yoda to Count Dooku, Count Dooku to Qui-Gon,
09:08 to Obi-Wan, Obi-Wan to Anakin, Anakin to Ahsoka,
09:11 and Ahsoka to Sabine.
09:12 - Very impressive, Michael.
09:15 I'm very proud of you.
09:16 - Well done, man.
09:18 - I can name all the presidents too.
09:20 - Just a little nudge.
09:24 - You can't force the force.
09:30 - Sabine, I've got her.
09:35 - She could, she did that.
09:37 Sabine did that.
09:39 - I heard you telepathically.
09:41 - You win this round.
09:42 - Watch it move by itself.
09:45 - Yeah, it's awesome.
09:46 - It walks away.
09:47 - I won't be joining you for this one.
09:51 And neither will the fleet.
09:52 - What?
09:54 - That's bull fleet.
09:56 - It's not up to me.
09:56 I'm just following orders.
09:58 - Hera?
09:59 - Pee-Yang, what's happened?
10:00 - She was better at politics.
10:01 - All comm transmissions are being jammed.
10:04 - Oh.
10:04 - Someone's on their tail.
10:05 - Why'd we drop out of hyperspace so far from the planet?
10:07 - Standard Jedi mission protocol
10:09 when approaching an unknown situation.
10:11 - We park down the street.
10:12 - Whatever it is has a signature which is unknown to me.
10:15 - So much unknown stuff in this.
10:20 - Not for long.
10:22 - What do we got here?
10:23 - Oh.
10:25 - This looks like bad guys.
10:26 - Yeah.
10:27 - It's a squadron of World War II fighter planes.
10:31 - She's a pilot as well.
10:32 - It kind of reminds me of like a Udapau.
10:34 - Tail gun, please.
10:35 - On it.
10:37 - But only rogue squadrons. - Nice.
10:40 - Nice, oh, we're getting new Hope references, I feel it.
10:42 - Tail gun check in.
10:46 - See, you got rid of my presets.
10:48 - Two and three, close range and engage.
10:53 - Could never understand why like high value
10:55 force wielding individuals would risk flying in ships.
11:05 - Great shots again.
11:06 - Remember, learn to anticipate.
11:09 - Now's not the time for a lesson.
11:10 - Yeah.
11:11 - Just a little rush.
11:12 - It's always a time for a lesson.
11:13 - Yeah.
11:13 - Come on Sabine, just get one.
11:17 - I have several thoughts on everything else going on.
11:19 - Not now.
11:20 - The way you're both acting, there won't be a later.
11:23 - I love that look that she gave.
11:26 - Hu Yen was right.
11:27 - Sabine.
11:33 - Get into the zone.
11:34 - Tell me what you need.
11:36 - I love it.
11:37 - All right, get ready.
11:38 - Ready.
11:40 - I love the processing of emotions
11:44 that you could feel on Rosario Dawson's.
11:46 - I have you now.
11:49 - Just get one.
11:50 - Dive, dive, dive.
11:53 - Love the teamwork.
11:55 - All right, let's go, let's go.
11:56 - Do a barrel roll.
12:04 - Damn.
12:04 - I had them, but missed.
12:05 - Don't worry about it, you'll get another chance.
12:07 We got two more incoming.
12:08 - Dead ahead.
12:09 - I love how this is just becoming
12:10 a full on training session.
12:12 - I'm gonna split them.
12:13 - Ready?
12:14 - Ready.
12:15 - Now.
12:17 - Get one.
12:20 - Come on.
12:21 - I got one.
12:23 - Don't get cocky kid.
12:24 (laughing)
12:25 - Two six, with me.
12:27 - Good job.
12:28 - Yatta.
12:30 (laughing)
12:31 - Yatta, yatta.
12:33 - Let's roll them.
12:34 - Copy that.
12:35 - Her tendrils have so much movement.
12:37 They did such a good job.
12:38 They shouldn't stare at somebody's tendrils.
12:42 - Point now.
12:43 - They called Leku.
12:44 - Two more down.
12:50 - This is a well crafted sequence.
12:51 - We should be able to make visual confirmation now.
12:54 - Oh boy.
12:58 Yeah, it's like a hyperspace drive.
13:01 - Yeah.
13:02 - Some sort of hyperspace ring.
13:03 - I'd like to confirm.
13:04 (laughing)
13:06 - Excellent.
13:07 - Morgan.
13:10 - Are you gonna fly into it?
13:11 - Prepare turbo lasers.
13:13 - Hit the turbo base.
13:17 - Rock, form up on my wing and wait for my signal.
13:19 - Well if you play Empire.
13:20 - Thanks for talking over it.
13:22 - It's a Kylo Ren mask.
13:24 I think you're not gonna hear their real voice.
13:25 - It was an obvious clue that it was Ezra Bringer.
13:27 (laughing)
13:28 - I think it's--
13:29 - He literally said, "I Ezra Bringer agreed to the plan."
13:31 - Open fire.
13:32 - Oh yeah, green lasers.
13:36 Great use of sound design.
13:45 - See if you can get a little closer.
13:49 (laughing)
13:51 - This is beautiful.
13:58 - I'm excited to get this track in Star Tours coming up.
14:01 (dramatic music)
14:03 - Some excellent piloting.
14:06 - This is intolerable.
14:08 - You want it close?
14:09 - Yes.
14:10 - Collectors at 10%.
14:11 - So cantankerous.
14:12 - Don't look so satisfied.
14:17 - Yeah, she seems so happy.
14:19 - Yang.
14:19 - Just a moment.
14:21 (laughing)
14:23 - Scan complete.
14:25 - Oh.
14:25 - Destroyed.
14:30 - Nice cut.
14:31 - Could you imagine?
14:32 Series over.
14:33 - And we will have a three episode in memoriam.
14:38 - Ooh, it's an unsettling shot.
14:41 - Ooh.
14:42 - Please prioritize the beam.
14:43 We can't help who Yang and Verbal dead.
14:45 Get on it.
14:46 - Gotta put on your own oxygen mask first.
14:48 (laughing)
14:49 - Mormon, congratulations.
14:52 You almost got them.
14:54 - Bitch.
14:57 - I have eyes on them.
14:58 - We'll take it from here.
15:00 - I like this little rivalry.
15:04 It's an uneasy alliance.
15:05 - Work fast, I'm going out there.
15:08 - Out there?
15:09 Out where?
15:10 - Just keep working.
15:11 - Into a mini fighter?
15:12 - Gonna pull a Leia?
15:14 - Yeah, just Mary Poppins that shit.
15:16 - We have them.
15:20 - She is a captivating performer.
15:22 She does a lot with a little.
15:23 - I think the villains,
15:24 this is the best villains we've had.
15:26 - Oh my God, yes.
15:27 - Whoa.
15:28 (laughing)
15:30 - Okay.
15:30 - Yes.
15:31 (laughing)
15:32 - This is what I'm talking about.
15:35 - Let's go.
15:36 - I love how it's like specially,
15:38 the helmet's specially suited for her.
15:40 - Hello there.
15:43 - What?
15:45 - Speak up man.
15:47 - Awesome.
15:48 - Awesome.
15:48 - Dang.
15:49 - Oh my God.
15:51 - Jeez.
15:57 (laughing)
15:58 - This is so sick.
15:59 - What?
15:59 - Whoa.
16:00 - This is really cool.
16:01 It's really inventive.
16:02 - Sokka.
16:03 Did you fix the ship yet?
16:07 (laughing)
16:09 - Ooh.
16:14 - Sick.
16:16 - Awesome, awesome shots.
16:18 - Jeepers.
16:20 - Wow, that was really well orchestrated.
16:25 - Nice trick.
16:26 - Oh my God, get me a Funko figure of this.
16:29 - Oh, it's happening.
16:30 - All in good time.
16:31 - This is a genuinely exciting aerial sequence.
16:41 - Yeah.
16:42 - It feels like a good cross between Star Wars
16:44 and like an actual World War II kind of thing.
16:46 - I mean, that's how we made all the original scenes.
16:48 - Yes.
16:53 - Yes.
16:53 - The pearl.
16:54 - Let's go.
16:55 - That is a pearl.
16:56 - God damn.
16:57 - Oh shit.
16:59 - We just seen Ezra on top of it.
17:06 - And Paul Atreides on one.
17:11 - Paul Atreides.
17:12 - Wow, the scope and scale of them.
17:16 I'm loving the perspective.
17:17 - It's extraordinary.
17:19 - Jeez.
17:20 - Go in the mouth.
17:22 - Ever seen Pinocchio?
17:23 - Yeah.
17:24 - Monstro this shit.
17:26 - Oh hell yeah.
17:30 - Hey, Cthulhu.
17:31 - It could be Starkiller.
17:35 - Again, those locked off shots.
17:39 - Jeez.
17:42 - This is a fucking blast.
17:48 - I mean, how do you make a unique new type
17:51 of Star Wars space chase sequence?
17:54 (dramatic music)
17:56 - Take it.
17:59 - Where?
18:00 (laughing)
18:10 - Extra and complete.
18:12 (laughing)
18:16 - We almost died.
18:17 - Multiple times.
18:18 - Ah yes, standard operating procedure.
18:20 - Yes sir.
18:22 (dramatic music)
18:24 - I appreciate the old Republic symbol.
18:26 (dramatic music)
18:29 - Literally looks like an eagle with wings there.
18:33 - Shut the power down.
18:34 - I protest, I have a lot of work to do.
18:36 - Standard Jedi protocol.
18:37 - I suppose that's true.
18:38 - Shutting down.
18:39 - It's true.
18:40 - Good use of tension here.
18:51 - How does the ring work in conjunction with the Pergil?
18:54 Did they like force it to go through
18:56 that specific ring or something?
18:58 - Or maybe there's something about this planet
19:00 being like the Pergil's home that--
19:02 - You think this planet is specifically their home
19:04 or are they just like camped out here right now?
19:05 - It's interesting that they're like
19:06 in the lower atmosphere of the planet.
19:08 - Haven't seen those creatures
19:09 since the day Ezra disappeared.
19:11 - Oh, no.
19:12 - There are six hyperdrive engines in place
19:14 with the final one being set into position.
19:16 - Okay.
19:18 - But I have never seen one built on this scale before.
19:20 - Intergalactic travel.
19:21 - Yeah, could a ring like that
19:22 make a jump to a neighboring galaxy?
19:25 - Archives speak of intergalactic hyperspace lanes
19:28 between galaxies which used to follow
19:29 the migration paths of star whales named Pergil.
19:33 - Ooh. - There we go.
19:34 - Like the ones we just saw.
19:36 - Really?
19:37 When?
19:38 (laughing)
19:40 - You'll never believe what we told you.
19:43 - This is like such a healthy amount of exposition.
19:45 - Ah.
19:49 - Hunt them down.
19:50 - He's done.
19:52 - Oh, boy.
19:52 - He's so good.
19:56 - I can't wait for him and Ahsoka to fight.
19:58 - God, even just standing there,
20:02 he just has tons of pressure.
20:04 - Such a good villain.
20:05 - Oh, man, I was really enjoying that.
20:13 - Yeah.
20:14 - Too short.
20:15 - That was way too short.
20:16 - Too short, but definitely leaves you wanting more.
20:20 - Yeah, we're on the right track.
20:21 - In a good way.
20:22 - Yeah, we're on the right track.
20:23 - Let's chit chat.
20:24 I mean, it's pretty obvious that they're setting up Jason
20:27 for a future spinoff show
20:29 where he's gonna wanna become a Jedi, guys.
20:31 - Uh-oh.
20:32 - That's my big takeaway out of everything
20:34 that happened in this episode.
20:35 I got one takeaway.
20:36 - Yeah.
20:37 - Setting up the new Kanan show.
20:39 (laughing)
20:42 - And they can make their own like young Avengers,
20:44 get Grogu, get little Jason.
20:46 - Come on, you know they're gonna do it.
20:47 - Or children.
20:48 - Well, you know, he could end up at the Jedi temple
20:50 and everything goes great.
20:52 - It looks like a Jedi temple.
20:53 - This is what happens.
20:53 - This is what happens.
20:54 - This is what happens.
20:55 - And then Kylo Ren kills them all.
20:58 - History repeats itself.
21:00 - That'd be great.
21:01 Get a fun side of Kylo.
21:03 - Yeah, I, the more--
21:05 - Kylo friend.
21:06 - Kylo friend.
21:07 It would be fun to,
21:09 depending on how this pans out,
21:12 to have a large group of characters
21:14 end up in this other galaxy permanently
21:17 as to explain their absence in the sequel trilogy.
21:20 - Yeah, 'cause that's gonna bug me forever.
21:23 - Big time.
21:24 The only issue is the ghost,
21:26 Hera's ship is in the sequel trilogy.
21:30 - Yeah.
21:31 - It's at the Battle of Exegol.
21:33 - I overall really liked this episode a lot.
21:36 I had a lot of fun with this one.
21:38 It was, it felt, it had that actual,
21:43 that spirit, that genuine spirit and wonder
21:46 of what I thought "Mandalorian" season three
21:49 would often kind of fail at and feel rushed during.
21:54 This didn't do that.
21:55 Yes, it's a short episode,
21:58 but still I felt the substance of it.
22:00 And I genuinely had a really good time.
22:03 Am I on the edge of my seat in terms of suspense?
22:07 No, but in terms of absorbing the adventure,
22:10 I really feel the absorption of that.
22:13 And I'm really finding myself much more endeared now
22:17 'cause the last two had a more serious tone,
22:22 which is not a problem to me at all.
22:24 Overall, I loved it while I had a little bit of gripes
22:27 in terms of, and I know some people have a pushback on this.
22:31 I feel like there's a divide here.
22:32 I've noticed some people have echoed our opinions
22:34 of some of that stoicism that I was like,
22:36 "Eh, I could use a little bit just more pep
22:38 in the personality in some way."
22:40 And I thought this really brought it
22:41 with Ahsoka and Sabine and the chemistry.
22:44 Like I really felt the chemistry between them this time.
22:47 And I found myself really enjoying
22:51 the whole training segments with them,
22:54 especially at the very top of this episode.
22:56 And then watching as Ahsoka again,
22:59 being the master learning from your Padawan,
23:03 similar to like how Ahsoka was paired up with Anakin.
23:08 So Anakin could learn something about himself as well.
23:11 And now you're watching that trajectory unfold.
23:15 And while like that's part of the package usually
23:18 with the master Padawan, this really feels like,
23:22 okay, specifically with Anakin to Ahsoka
23:23 and now for Ahsoka to Sabine,
23:25 it is just as much about the master learning
23:28 about themselves and how to be as well as the Padawan
23:33 on top of that too.
23:34 So I really liked this one a lot.
23:36 I liked the future of where it's headed towards
23:38 and when they finally revealed that
23:40 that was Ezra under the mask the whole time.
23:42 - It's nice to see Ahsoka,
23:46 because I was doing a lot of thinking about it,
23:48 you know, and I think everybody
23:50 in the comment section agreed.
23:52 Like Ahsoka is like a very, I don't wanna say uptight,
23:55 but not the traditional, friendly, happy, vibrant Ahsoka
24:00 that we knew in the early seasons of "The Clone Wars."
24:04 And you can only imagine the trauma that it is
24:07 of having somebody that you're so close with
24:09 that you know on such a personal, deep, intimate level,
24:13 only for them to fall the way that Anakin did.
24:17 And I think something that we're gonna continue to explore
24:21 is between the relationship between Ahsoka and Sabine,
24:25 part of the reason that Ahsoka is struggling
24:27 to be a real master is because that level
24:32 of being vulnerable is something that I think
24:36 she's scared to get hurt again.
24:38 And it's not that she doesn't care about Sabine,
24:40 it's just that it's, you know, what if I do this wrong
24:44 and my Padawan goes to the dark side?
24:47 - Well, yeah, the last time,
24:49 between "Rebels" to "Mandalorian,"
24:50 the last time we saw Ahsoka in the animated format,
24:54 other than the ending tease, the cliffhanger,
24:57 was that she just got the revelation
25:00 of Anakin is Darth Vader.
25:02 And you can only imagine the amount of emotional trauma.
25:06 - And put through space and time,
25:08 missed several years of her life.
25:10 - She went through some trauma.
25:11 - It makes sense to me, I think some people misunderstand
25:14 if I say, like, I don't think stoic is necessarily bad.
25:19 And I think that there's kind of like a multi-layer
25:24 that I was sort of craving, I guess, is what more of,
25:26 'cause I'm like, no, it makes sense to me
25:28 that she would be different based off
25:31 of what she went through.
25:32 Like, of course she would be different.
25:35 - And we're starting to see those,
25:36 the dimensions of the relationship and the nuance of it.
25:39 And I really appreciate what you said about that,
25:41 'cause I think we're gonna continue to see that evolution.
25:45 I'm glad that Hera, and I can't believe I'm saying this,
25:49 isn't coming along for this leg of the journey,
25:52 if only to give those two the room for their relationship
25:56 to really, having just them, if only for an episode or two,
26:01 is really, really important to that relationship
26:03 developing in a big way.
26:04 I did wanna say that I felt like Hera's portrayal,
26:10 number one, I think, on an acting level,
26:13 doing an amazing job, I just remember her being
26:16 so much better at politics, though.
26:18 Like, that was something that was,
26:20 when we see her evolution as like the leader
26:23 of Phoenix Squadron and the Rebel cell,
26:26 and then the introduction to the larger Rebel organization,
26:30 I feel like she was so good at navigating the nuance
26:34 and the politics of it all, only to just like,
26:37 not necessarily be on her game.
26:39 And part of me wonders if that is an intentional,
26:44 trying to show that in the absence of Kanan,
26:48 in the absence of the family that she's built,
26:52 that she's kind of pulling at strings
26:54 for what she longs for and misses.
26:57 But I thought that dynamic is really interesting.
26:59 The New Republic, I just, I think they need to do something
27:04 to make me care about it.
27:06 And they have a need to do something
27:08 to give the New Republic like a POV
27:11 or something more than them just going,
27:12 "It's fine, we're the New Republic, and that's it."
27:17 - Some kind of, I think in the same way
27:19 that like Mon Mothma and Andor did such a good job
27:23 at making the rebellion feel more dynamic and interesting,
27:27 not saying I want a political thriller,
27:29 but I wanna show that not every single person
27:31 in the New Republic government is an absolute idiot.
27:34 Because right now it's being set up as that,
27:38 and it's just, it's been consistently unrewarding
27:41 time and time again where it's like,
27:42 "Wow, these are just a bunch of bureaucratic idiots."
27:46 Which makes everything that was fought for
27:47 feel so sad.
27:51 Like, what about all the boffin spies
27:54 that died to get them that information?
27:56 - Well, yeah, I mean, I guess the part of it
27:58 that lacks a believability area,
28:01 'cause like, yeah, I get the whole turn in the blind eye
28:03 thing and history repeating itself and whatnot,
28:06 is specifically regarding the empire.
28:08 Like the fact that they have these former empire people
28:12 as employees and stuff, and they're just like,
28:14 "No, it's been fun."
28:16 - They're all over the place, it's working out.
28:19 - Not a questionable thing about allegiance
28:22 or anything of that regard, just like, "Nah!"
28:25 There's just like one-off, what did you do?
28:26 - They signed up, they're fully dealt with the plan.
28:29 - I think what the New Republic is missing,
28:31 narratively, 'cause like, they're always drawing
28:34 from history, and so the historical precedence here
28:36 is like, yeah, we employed an extraordinary amount
28:39 of Nazis after World War II,
28:41 because we were scared of the Soviets.
28:43 I think the issue is, there's like no,
28:46 they're just like, "Yeah, it's just tough times,
28:48 a lot of transitions and things."
28:50 And there's no, and here we are creating
28:53 an existential potential crisis,
28:55 something that can test the New Republic,
28:57 something that, and just instantly they're like,
28:59 "Ah, yeah, we're not gonna take one of our most
29:01 trusted generals' advice, we're not gonna."
29:04 And like, Mon Mothma, you're the chancellor.
29:07 I'm sure they've stripped the powers down significantly
29:11 since Jar Jar, but like, you know.
29:14 Anyway, I do wanna talk about The Inquisitor for a minute,
29:18 if that's okay.
29:19 - Sure.
29:20 - 'Cause I've been thinking endlessly about it.
29:23 And while my hope, narratively speaking,
29:26 is that it's still Barris, I do really, really like
29:30 the idea of Sam Witmer, who played Maul,
29:34 and among many other characters,
29:36 and also voiced Starkiller in Force Unleashed.
29:39 I do love the idea of them bringing a version
29:42 of that character to live action.
29:45 And the reason I love that is because,
29:47 for those that played Force Unleashed,
29:49 Starkiller was Vader's apprentice.
29:53 And I think, narratively, for Ahsoka,
29:57 who is Anakin's apprentice, to go head-to-head
30:00 with somebody who is Vader's apprentice
30:03 would create such a fascinating dynamic.
30:06 - Definitely.
30:07 - And if it's Ezra, I will lose my mind,
30:11 'cause narratively, that makes absolutely no sense.
30:13 It is such a waste.
30:14 - That's weird, I feel like that actually does make sense
30:17 in terms of if Ezra was actually with Thrawn
30:19 and was able to see, 'cause you see, the problem is--
30:22 - So you're saying Thrawn's on the right side of history.
30:24 - I'm saying that--
30:25 - Ah, got him!
30:26 - The nuance that you speak about to Thrawn
30:29 is present in the books and stuff.
30:32 That's not present in Rebels.
30:34 He's very much a bad guy in Rebels.
30:36 I think, for the most part, he's a bad guy.
30:39 Where in the books, he's way--
30:41 - Let me very verbally, out loud,
30:44 I think Thrawn is a bad guy who does bad things.
30:49 I think Thrawn became a bad guy who does bad things
30:52 because he's scared of something that is--
30:55 - A thousand percent.
30:56 And I think the nuance complexity
30:59 where one can strongly argue that,
31:01 "Hey, he's not necessarily just a black and white villain."
31:04 I feel like there is a way he can play an influence,
31:06 and especially with Ezra, who has often been teased
31:09 with the dark side, but lured to the dark side.
31:12 Many times, I feel like the dark side can take hold of Ezra.
31:16 - Especially in the absence of his friends.
31:18 - Where he thinks he's doing something good.
31:21 - I agree on a narrative level
31:23 that when we get to the other galaxy,
31:27 that we will find an Ezra
31:29 who may very well be aligned with Thrawn.
31:32 What I don't think is that that Ezra
31:36 somehow managed to travel back to this galaxy,
31:39 didn't let his friends know-- - World between worlds.
31:42 - I just, I don't see any rational, logical explanation.
31:48 I just explained it perfectly. - I do, I do.
31:50 I do think-- - Solid plan.
31:51 I went on the subway.
31:52 - I do feel very confident, though,
31:56 that the Ezra Bridger that we know.
31:58 (everyone laughs)
32:00 - I'm enjoying this.
32:00 This is so much fun to watch.
32:03 - The Ezra Bridger that we find in this other galaxy,
32:06 I think you're absolutely right
32:07 in that he'll probably be aligned with Thrawn.
32:10 They'll probably be working together,
32:11 and that will probably be really challenging for Sabine,
32:14 who's probably finally coming into her own with the Force,
32:17 and is like, "I'm finally a Jedi,
32:19 "and wait, the Jedi I admire most in the world,"
32:22 is working with the evil villain.
32:25 - Jon Jon.
32:26 - Jon Yonde?
32:28 - Jon's working really hard. - Jon Yonde.
32:30 (everyone laughs)
32:30 - Jon Jon.
32:31 - Yes, Grand Admiral Yonde.
32:33 - Grand Admiral Yonde.
32:35 - That's my name, don't worry about it.
32:36 - All right, Jon.
32:37 - Jon, what did you think?
32:37 - Review the episode. - I'm so curious.
32:40 - I mean, I have so many thoughts
32:42 about this very straightforward, action-oriented episode.
32:45 I mean, I liked, you know,
32:47 I feel like we should almost just stay
32:49 on conspiracy track now.
32:51 I mean, I thought this did a nice job.
32:53 The loveliest thing this did was portray
32:57 an action-based situation that the whole time,
33:00 to me anyway, did feel like a character-building
33:03 and a team-building exercise,
33:05 and I think the ideal, you know, it's easy to dazzle.
33:09 In fact, across all of these shows of debatable quality,
33:12 we've gone and seen different dogfights
33:15 and recontextualized versions
33:17 of other action set pieces we've seen before,
33:19 and I thought this did nicely
33:22 to make something that was visually gripping and exciting,
33:24 but that also, yeah,
33:25 feels like you are watching two people
33:27 mend some aspect of their relationship
33:30 or open back up to each other,
33:31 as well as, as you guys pointed out,
33:35 learning the new things,
33:37 one, that Padawan needs to learn from their master,
33:39 and two, that master needs to learn
33:41 from the overall situation and from Padawan in general.
33:44 And then you got who the main character is.
33:45 - Yeah, but who's the Inquisitor?
33:46 - It's Ezra Bridger, I don't know.
33:48 - No, it's not, John!
33:50 - It's the ghost of Han Solo.
33:51 - He's not dead yet! - He's not dead yet.
33:54 - No, you're time-wise.
33:55 - No, but we're gonna get time travel.
33:57 - We do already have time travel.
33:59 - Oh, well, see, then Han's ghost time traveled back
34:02 and he became the Inquisitor.
34:04 - I was pretty convinced for a minute
34:06 that Balin was just an alt-history Anakin Skywalker
34:11 from a different parallel universe.
34:13 For a millisecond, I was convinced.
34:15 - I feel like the gray Jedi aspects
34:18 of Balin and great character actors,
34:24 she's honestly so good.
34:26 - For the fact that we don't know her name,
34:28 I think she's extraordinary.
34:29 - I feel like she, I feel like they are representative
34:33 of, to help set us up for when we do see Ezra Bridger.
34:38 That these people are not just like black and white,
34:42 they're Sith, you know, that they're not that.
34:45 We are setting up a way where they are,
34:48 yes, they use dark side stuff,
34:50 but they really believe they're doing it for a great cause.
34:54 - Yeah. - You know?
34:55 And I am wondering why Morgan Elsbeth, though,
34:59 really is so adamant on serving Thrawn
35:04 that I am wondering if there's more,
35:08 because we're opening up the realm of magic now.
35:12 - Yeah. - I mean, it's always existed,
35:14 but there's always been this weird subsection
35:16 where we never really explored magic
35:18 in the live action stuff,
35:19 and I'm kind of wondering if that's gonna be the,
35:21 there's some type of battling of magic
35:23 that we're ultimately building to,
35:25 and I feel like there is something linked to that.
35:28 - What's it in Marvel?
35:29 It's like wizards, aliens, what's the phrase that they use?
35:33 - And robots. - And robots.
35:35 That's what we're, that's what they're doing here.
35:38 - I am just curious of like, what is that planet
35:40 that wherever Thrawn is on, if there are other,
35:45 is that where the magic comes from?
35:46 - So that's, to play into that,
35:49 my kind of like headcanon theory at this point
35:54 is they have taken the time now to say that
35:57 according to the Jedi,
35:58 there used to be multiple intergalactic hyperspace.
36:02 - Intergalactic hyperspace.
36:04 Hyperspace intergalactic.
36:06 - Which raises the question, are there Nightsisters?
36:13 Are there Jedi of a different type
36:16 that exist in these other galaxies?
36:19 And is there just a much larger narrative at play
36:22 than what we've been limited to?
36:23 - There are people who, it's like Zootopia,
36:25 but everyone has the force and they're just.
36:26 - Well, yeah, but that's kind of the interesting,
36:28 so like, I mean, even in like power.
36:29 - The force isn't special, everyone has.
36:32 - But even like, you know, in talking about like the Chiss
36:35 and the Unknown Regions, which is still in this galaxy,
36:38 like that's Thrawn species.
36:40 They have a group of force-sensitive youth
36:43 who are called the Skywalker Corps,
36:45 and like they help navigate through these hyperspace lanes
36:49 and the difficulties of the Unknown Region using the force.
36:52 But they have no other exposure to the Jedi.
36:56 And so I think if we're exploring other galaxies
36:59 where the force still exists,
37:01 we will see other interpretations
37:03 of how the force manifests in different societies.
37:06 Which I think leads perfectly into what you're saying
37:08 about like, well, there'll be some interesting conversations
37:11 between magic and the force and what that looks like,
37:15 you know, but ultimately-
37:16 - You'll find out it's constructed in a lab.
37:18 - Uneasy, yeah, it's been a chorus, obviously.
37:21 (everyone laughs)
37:22 - Drink your force juice.
37:23 - It's the boys, yeah.
37:24 - It's Gen V.
37:25 - I think-
37:26 (everyone laughs)
37:26 - It's V, V, V, V, V, V, V, V, V, V, V, V, V, V, V.
37:28 - I think ultimately what we're looking at though
37:31 with this uneasy alliance between Balin and Morgan
37:35 and company, Thrawn.
37:38 - Ezra.
37:39 - Ezra.
37:40 And I think soon Ahsoka and Sabine
37:44 and maybe Luke, maybe, you know,
37:48 Grogu and Din Djarin and company.
37:52 I mean, 'cause the other thing
37:53 that we have to think about here is that these,
37:56 this is what he's, he said,
37:57 "We're taking all these shows
37:59 "and we're gonna turn them into one big cinematic story."
38:01 Which means the Mandalorians-
38:02 - Now do your George Lucas impression.
38:03 - What was that?
38:04 - Now do your George Lucas.
38:05 - George Lucas.
38:07 - Do your George Lucas impression.
38:08 - I just, I just, yeah.
38:10 - I thought you were doing your Filoni.
38:10 - I thought you were doing Dave Filoni.
38:12 - Dave Filoni is, Dave Filoni is kind of like his cowboy hat.
38:15 - Dave Filoni is a cowboy hat.
38:16 (everyone laughs)
38:19 - It's poetry.
38:21 - We gotta end this, man.
38:22 I gotta edit.
38:23 - Anyway, so that's all I have to say.
38:25 (everyone laughs)
38:26 - It's poetry, not a novel.
