A new mixed martial arts (MMA) gym has opened in Wellingborough, bringing the niche sport to anyone from seasoned fighters to eager amateurs of all ages

00:05 There was a group of martial artists

00:07 that wanted to have their own place,

00:09 all wanted to train together.

00:10 There's no politics.

00:11 Any race, religion, creed, or color can come and train here.

00:15 It's all about the individual becoming

00:17 the best that they can be.

00:18 We just want everybody to know they can come and train here.

00:20 You don't have to be a pro fighter.

00:22 You can come to just get fit, just

00:24 to increase your self-esteem, your confidence.

00:26 We're not trying to create a gym that

00:30 is full of just pro fighters.

00:31 This is a gym for everyone.

00:32 I've been waiting for this a long time,

00:39 because we've been training in a small place.

00:42 And I literally can't-- when I first stepped into the gym,

00:46 I was like, felt in my new home, man.

00:48 So this is my new home now.

00:49 So I'm 19 years old.

00:50 When I was young, I used to be those type of guy

00:52 that going out, staying out with friends,

00:55 and doing nothing.

00:56 But since I started joining the gym,

00:59 everything changed for my life.

01:00 It's hard work, dedication, following my dreams.

01:03 Every kid should do something, at least something,

01:05 even if it's BJJ, wrestling, kickboxing, MMA, whatever.

01:09 It's just like it gets you out of the troubles,

01:11 out of everything.

01:12 And it just helps you with the mind.

01:13 It doesn't cause you stress.

01:14 It helps you with everything.

01:16 So I think it's a wonderful thing for the kids.

01:19 The long-term goal is to give something back

01:21 to the community that allows children somewhere

01:23 to go after school, where they're not just

01:25 walking the streets.

01:26 They're not idly sitting around in a park

01:28 or mixing with the wrong crowd.

01:29 They've got somewhere where they can come in

01:31 if they need to get their frustrations out,

01:33 they've got too much energy they need to release.

01:36 We have the perfect environment for them to learn.
