Research Shows , the Health Benefits , of Drinking Tea .
NBC reports that mounting evidence suggests
that consuming several cups of tea a day
can come with numerous health benefits.
According to research on the subject,
those benefits include a lower risk of heart
disease, stroke, diabetes and overall mortality.
The results of the research suggest that drinking at least
four cups of black, green or Oolong tea lowered the risk
of developing type 2 diabetes by 17% over a decade.
Our results are exciting because they
suggest that people can do something
as simple as drinking four cups of tea
a day to potentially lessen their risk
of developing type 2 diabetes, Xiaying Li, Researcher at Wuhan University of Science and Technology, via NBC.
Last month, another study found that drinking
two or more cups of black tea lowered the risk
of death by 9% to 13% over a 14-year period.
We think our findings will be very reassuring
to people who are already drinking tea, Dr. Maki Inoue-Choi, Staff scientist at the National Cancer Institute, via NBC.
NBC reports that the health benefits of tea
may come from polyphenols, compounds found
naturally in plants that are a source of antioxidants.
These compounds may decrease
inflammation and oxidative stress in
the body, and in turn that possibly lowers
the risk of developing certain health
conditions such as heart disease, Dr. Maki Inoue-Choi, Staff scientist at the National Cancer Institute, via NBC.
Catechins, the dominant polyphenol found
in green tea, help protect cells from
damage and may help ward off disease.
However, NBC points out that the study did
not find any association between drinking
tea and a reduced risk of death from cancer.
