Birmingham headlines 4 September: One week refuse strike commences in Solihull

Street cleaners, grounds maintenance crews and refuse workers have commenced a one-week strike in Solihull in a dispute over pay. The GMB union has said that workers on contracts are walking out due to 'low pay' from firms contracted to provide authority services. Parks services provider IDVerde said it was open to "constructive discussions" while contractor Veolia has apologised to residents affected by the disruption.

Around 200 people attended a ceremony Sunday to secure the Bricks of the former Crooked House pub in Dudley. The Save the Crooked House campaign group said it had talked to contractors who agreed to secure the bricks from the building which was demolished following a fire on August 5. Two men have been released from custody after being arrested in connection to that incident.
