The 2023 World Rowing Championships are underway and today, in the PR3 Mix Coxed Four, the first four boats that qualified for the A-Final also secured a quota for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Listen to their reactions here.

00:00 To be honest, relief is the biggest thing right now.

00:04 I think it was tough conditions and it's now,

00:08 I mean, now that we're qualified,

00:09 it's the first time ever I've managed

00:11 to achieve the qualification.

00:12 And it was just overall good race.

00:16 Like we managed to get out of it very quickly.

00:18 We were surprised how quickly the rest of the crew

00:22 has followed up as well, especially China.

00:24 They stuck with us for way too long

00:27 than we would have liked.

00:29 But no, it's been a really good day, good racing.

00:33 And now I'm looking forward to an afternoon off.

00:37 - Oh, it's amazing.

00:38 I think this world championships is just so different.

00:41 You know, we're all coming to qualify

00:43 and obviously, you know, we're all punching for medals.

00:45 And the ideal is you punch for a medal

00:47 and then you get the qualification spot.

00:48 So yeah, we're absolutely buzzing to qualify.

00:51 That's priority job one done.

00:53 And now we're onto the final

00:54 and we got to chase those medals.

00:55 Composure.

00:57 - It was really, really not very nice weather out there,

00:59 to be honest, really changeable.

01:01 So I was trying to not rely on the speeds

01:04 and just rely on the way the boat was feeling

01:05 and what was going on.

01:07 And I could see USA on my little right hand side.

01:09 And to be honest, you know,

01:11 they have been the kind of bridesmaids to our bride

01:14 for years and years and years.

01:15 And I expected no different.

01:16 They've come out really strong this year

01:17 and yeah, we're excited to race them in the final.

01:19 - You know, we went out to have the best race we could

01:22 and we're just so grateful to be here

01:23 amongst all these fantastic crews.

01:24 So went for it and we're just excited

01:27 to keep learning and growing.

01:29 - Well, the more awareness and the more boats

01:31 that we can get in the PR34,

01:33 the faster we're all gonna go.

01:34 So if we can just keep getting boats out there,

01:36 keep getting athletes out there,

01:38 that's number one and we're all gonna keep growing together.

01:41 - We tried not to think too much about it

01:45 because having the games nearly at home,

01:49 it's a fantastic thing, I think, I believe for an athlete.

01:54 But it's also a lot of stress.

01:56 And we wanted to think about Paris

02:01 when we had our qualification quota.

02:04 So we have it.

02:06 Now we'll train for Paris.

02:07 regard.
