Hello there, Lee Sobot at the Yorkshire Evening Post here from Ellen Road where Leeds United's
00:06
Championship clash, Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday ultimately ended in a
00:11
goalless draw. We probably should have all seen it come in, we were all saying beforehand,
00:15
certainly in the press area anyway, how we fully expected Leeds to win this one by two
00:18
or three goals, playing the side who are bottom of the table without a single point. Leeds
00:23
having gone to Ipswich the previous weekend who were top and scoring four goals and winning
00:26
four-three. But ultimately drawing a blanket in a game that finished a goalless draw. A
00:33
fairly hard one to assess really, although I think the overriding thought will be that
00:38
Leeds had the chances to win the game. I don't think there's any doubt about that whatsoever,
00:42
especially in the second half. The best of them, there were quite a few, but it has to
00:46
be said the best one felt was Eugénie Routier who was played through on goal by a wonderful
00:50
lifted pass over the top from Ethan Ampendoo. He looked offside, he almost had a look himself
00:55
I think, as if to think he was offside. Tried to put on a dinked, lobbed finish but just
00:59
played it straight into the keeper's arms and really, really frustrating. He was through
01:03
again a few minutes later but was actually flagged offside this time and he went ahead
01:07
and smashed the ball against the crossbar and was booked for that, for basically playing
01:10
on and kicking the ball away. As such, it wasn't just him, he wasn't the only one with
01:14
the only chance, there were other ones as well. But just lack of a cutting edge. But
01:18
what you would say also in this is that although the pattern of the game in the first half
01:21
was basically all Leeds, certainly lots of possession, there's no denying that Chef
01:25
Wensley had their chances as well. Leeds got a real let off when Paterson put one over
01:29
the bar, middle of the box, basically six or seven yards out and should have scored
01:33
and looked to the heavens as he missed that. That was a glorious chance and they had other
01:37
chances as well. Hélène Melio making a couple of good saves. Leeds did have the better chances
01:41
and had more of them but actually Wensley had one more shot on goal so that tells you
01:46
where we're at with this. A few takeaways from it are that Joel Pirro, obviously the
01:50
new signing, played at number 10 again. It should be said he played at number 10 at Ipswich
01:54
as well. But I think a lot of people are scratching their heads afterwards saying 'why isn't he
01:57
at number 9 having scored so many goals for Swansea?' Daniel Farker said basically afterwards
02:02
that that was the role he played at Swansea, actually arriving deep. So it remains to be
02:06
seen what happens there. There were also two debuts, Jed Spence and also Glenn Kamara,
02:11
both came on in the final 10 minutes. I think he only came on in the 81st minute, Jed Spence,
02:16
but he looked brilliant straight away to be quite honest. If there was a contender for
02:20
the man of the match for such a late substitute he'd probably get it. Straight away, just
02:23
bombing up and down the right, looked really, really powerful, quick and I think it's only
02:27
a matter of time before he has to start basically. Where that leaves Luke Ayling, I don't know
02:30
because he's obviously captain at the moment and an important player but he definitely
02:33
had a big impact. Nantes was also excellent in the second half down the left and Somerville
02:38
as well was very, very nippy really, just all over the place and creating stuff. So
02:42
there were loads of positives to take but ultimately it's a game you'd have thought
02:45
Leeds would have won and a game that they'll look at as two points dropped. It's left
02:49
and 15th in the table, international break now, there's loads to work on. The squad's
02:53
here definitely you would think for a big promotion push but certainly lots to work
02:56
on. That's it for now, until midway after the break. Cheers.
