In a virtual press conference held on March 25, 2022, Mike Enriquez shared his reflections about life. One of which was the situation of the healthcare system in the Philippines, especially for the poor.

00:00 So, in this kind of vacation, this much-needed break,
00:06 this is also time for reflection, right?
00:10 What are the important things that you can share,
00:13 the reflections that we can learn from you?
00:18 Reflection and discernment.
00:21 And I am not finished yet with the process.
00:24 It's still ongoing for me.
00:28 And if you ask what about, it's about my future, my career, my life.
00:35 I promised myself at the start of my surgery and my isolation
00:44 that I would spend the time really, really taking a serious look at my life, at my career,
00:53 what I really want to happen in my life.
00:58 Is it time to, how do you say it?
01:06 Is it time to turn off the microphone?
01:10 Is it time to not turn off the microphone completely, but to listen?
01:16 Is it like that?
01:17 And I will repeat, I am still in the process of making that discernment.
01:23 And you will be among the first to know.
01:27 I'm sure our guys here will let you guys know the moment I have made a decision, if ever.
01:40 Because, Jerry, like you guys, right?
01:44 Sometimes you say, "I don't want to do this anymore."
01:47 Or time to pack up and move on.
01:54 And then after a while, you move back again.
02:00 I'm still in the process because when this happened,
02:07 you know Jerry, I was diagnosed 3-4 times a week before this.
02:14 Now, I don't have any more dialysis.
02:16 And it's hard.
02:23 Life is hard.
02:26 Yes. And I made a realization that life is hard, especially for those who cannot afford medical care.
02:39 Yeah. And as a matter of fact, I was in touch with a couple of friends who were also kidney transplant patients.
02:50 And they were thinking of organizing a group whose advocacy would be to make dialysis and kidney procedures affordable to Filipinos.
03:07 You know, Jerry, there are a lot of Filipinos who have no money to fight, simply because they don't have money.
03:19 Yes. But you realize how good God was to me.
03:25 And how I should return.
03:31 The gift of another life.
03:36 Yes. And how I should pay it forward, like they said.
03:40 Yes. So, I will be meeting with our group and figure out ways and means of helping our needy brothers and sisters
03:59 who need dialysis, who need the kidney procedure, but cannot have it because they cannot afford it.
04:08 And it breaks my heart when people come to me asking for help and say, "My husband needs dialysis three times a week."
04:22 And then it breaks my heart to know about dialysis patients.
04:27 Those who are underdialyzed. Why are they underdialyzed?
04:40 Because they don't have money. They don't have enough money.
04:44 Instead of three times a week, they only have twice a week.
04:48 Once a week only.
04:50 Is that so?
04:52 Yes.
