00:00 Hello and welcome back to part two of our Transfer Deadline Day Live with local TV Sport.
00:08 You've got myself Daniel and you've got Charles once again back to talk all things transfers
00:13 as the day progresses. This is the second of our two live streams. We had one this morning
00:17 at 10 in the morning. So Charles, if we look at some of the deals that have happened since
00:21 we've been off air, we've got a few coming in. Now we've just chatted out air off camera
00:26 there. I think we'll save some of the ones that involve the clubs we're going to chat
00:30 about with some of our guests later on. But if we just look there, Brennan Johnson reportedly
00:35 in an agreement to go to Tottenham from Nottingham Forest. That's an interesting one, isn't it?
00:42 Yeah, really interesting. Brennan Johnson was fantastic for Forest last season. I feel
00:48 like he was a really important part of them staying as a Premier League club. So, I mean,
00:54 he does sort of suit Tottenham. Will he replace Kane's goals? Again, as we spoke earlier about
00:59 Madison, no. You don't really get anyone in world football who can really replace Kane's
01:04 goal. Maybe there's two or three that could. But yeah, it's a good sign for Spurs. He's
01:11 a positive player. He's a Welsh international as well. Yeah, I think he'll suit Ange Postakoglu's
01:18 play there as well, really well. And yeah, quite a few deals emerging, quite a few strange
01:26 ones. Neil Morpay is one that we'll get Will on our Liverpool World journalists to chat
01:34 about now. Will, you all right, mate? What's the situation with Morpay? Because I spoke
01:39 to Dan and I said, you know, we chat about Morpay not being enough for Everton every
01:43 week pretty much. What's developed there? What can you tell us?
01:47 Yes, interesting one. I mean, first of all, great to be on, lads. Having me on, hopefully
01:52 it's all going well. Yeah, but Neil Morpay, yeah. I think a lot of Everton fans have obviously
02:00 wanted Neil Morpay to move on to past his new year. It hasn't worked out for him. I
02:05 think he's even admitted that since he arrived from Brighton last summer. I mean, he never
02:10 really fit the profile of being an Everton player, given that he was arriving as back-up
02:14 for Dominic Colbert-Lewin and Richarlison had left. And yet, you know, the talk was
02:21 he was going to be going abroad, potentially, Italy. Apparently there was interest in January.
02:27 And maybe, you know, it sounds like that would be the news. But we get to deadline day now
02:32 and it looks like he's going back to his old stomping ground where he did really well in
02:36 the Championship for them. And I mean, it's not a massive surprise because at the time,
02:42 I don't think Thomas Frank really wants to get rid of Neil Morpay when he went to Brighton.
02:46 And yet, obviously, it needs a battle now with Ivan Tomey out until January. Interest
02:53 in one because they're completely different players as well. And people, obviously, Thomas
02:57 Frank's got to got in mind how we can get the best out of Neil Morpay. So it's a loan
03:03 with the opportunity to buy. And I think that might be in Everton's favour, potentially,
03:07 because if he goes to Brembos and scores a few goals, well, maybe Everton can bump up
03:11 the price a little bit and, you know, squeeze whatever they can out of the deal. But yes,
03:18 certainly an interest in one.
03:21 Very much so, yes. Now, if we move to the red half of the city, we've just been learning
03:26 as well about Mohamed Salah, who has, well, been touted by Saudi Arabia's, the Saudi Pro
03:32 League, I think it's Al-Ittihad. I'm not good with the pronunciation of that one. But regardless,
03:37 Liverpool have rejected £150m from Mohamed Salah. Now, me and Charles were talking before
03:42 this and we think, is it time, perhaps, given, you know, his age and the striking options
03:49 Liverpool still have at the club, would you actually accept that and take the money and
03:53 rebuild the squad and transfer windows to come?
03:55 Yeah, but the only problem is, is there's no replacements. You know, you're not going
04:00 to have time to find a replacement. Now, if this bid has been lodged three, four weeks
04:06 ago, maybe Liverpool's looked in for Bryce, well, Mohamed Salah's got, he's 31 now. You
04:13 know, we're getting a lot of money. We're never going to get money like that again for
04:17 a player, probably. Unless, you know, one of the younger lads really go on to be exceptional.
04:25 So because of Luxembourg, we can go out and get players. But now it's deadlines, they
04:28 usually go and get. That's the problem with Liverpool. They haven't really got a back
04:32 up for Mo Salah. If Mo Salah plays on the left, maybe then you look at him and think,
04:37 well, Luis Dias can play there, Giotto can play there, Gatpo can play there. But on the
04:42 right, it's only really Salah who's the specialist player. You've only got Ben Doak, a young
04:47 lad, who's 17, who is of a similar ilk really, you know, a left footed right winger. So yeah,
04:54 we'll probably look at him and think, we wish we probably maybe could see what we could
05:00 squeeze out of Sassi. But, you know, Liverpool have already lost a lot of players over the
05:05 summer for the right reasons as well. And, you know, they've had to move on the squad
05:11 and replenish the squad, but they don't want to get rid of too many of them. And Jürgen
05:15 Klopp needs some of his trusted lieutenants. And obviously, you know, the goals and assists
05:19 that Mo Salah's got over the years. You know, he's probably had a bad season last term and
05:27 he still scored 30 goals. But the debate there is just the time of the deal. And, you know,
05:34 the press conference earlier today, Jürgen Klopp emphatically said again that they're
05:38 not talking about it. And FSG president Mike Gordon's shut the Salahs down as well. But
05:46 certainly an interesting one, isn't it? This late in the window. And it may have disrupted
05:52 Liverpool a little bit, especially, you know, Salah maybe looking at where his future may
05:58 lie. And yeah, there's some cynics in it saying I've decided he's done it to help Newcastle
06:05 a little bit. I don't think it's as much of that much. I think that's a little bit of
06:11 a conspiracy theory myself. But yeah, it's certainly late and I don't think Liverpool
06:18 would have liked to have been too over-arbitrary this late.
06:22 Yeah, just on Everton, let's get a bit of a summary from you on their window, Will.
06:25 You know, we spoke week on week and you've been very confident that all the business
06:30 will happen late. Is there anything more to come and just summarise Everton's window as
06:37 a whole?
06:38 Yeah, it's been OK so far. I mean, they've still got a few players on the books who'd
06:44 like to off loads, you know, whether they will or not by the 10th. Someone like Gianfra
06:49 Lekebaman, Andre Gomez, you know, they have got reserve Mason Holey, he's gone off the
06:54 books as well, cleared a little bit. But yeah, I mean, obviously bringing Beto in helps Everton
06:59 because they have needed that striker and maybe I thought they might have to wait a
07:02 little bit longer. That's good news for Everton. Obviously, Scotland, he's done cast the other
07:05 night. Cimiti's come in, but he's one for the future. Has the youngest, you know, sound
07:12 pair of hands, he's 38. Dan Tumor, fairly decent sign. He probably needs another winger
07:20 for me, especially depending on what happens. Alex Owobi looks like he's off to, well, not
07:30 for the fact that he's down there now at the medical. So yeah, Alex Owobi's played central
07:37 midfield as well. I think he's going to be short in the midfield area now. Sean Dyche
07:42 plans to just play two midfields, he's been happy with his four options there. Yeah, it's
07:50 still going to go late, I think, for Everton. I think they'll get a couple of attacking
07:53 bozzies in maybe tonight, a couple of players leaving. You know, Damari Gray, another one
07:58 whose future is completely up in the air, hasn't featured at all in the first four games.
08:05 Despite Sean Dyche saying he's short of fitness, which I don't think a lot of fans are sold
08:11 on because he got back more than a month ago from the tournament with Jamaica. Yeah, it
08:19 could go way right down to the wire, I think.
08:21 That's Everton. Of course, Everton are a completely different part of the Premier League table
08:26 to Liverpool, or at least that's how we imagine things will finish. Liverpool, obviously,
08:31 as you mentioned there, will have let a good few players go this winter, but they've also
08:34 brought in a few. So, how would you summarise their window? Have they done enough to get
08:38 back in that Champions League spaces that they missed out on last season?
08:44 I mean, the signings have been silent so far. Obviously, Ryan Gravenberch coming in as well,
08:51 which bolsters the midfield option. Liverpool fans wanted to see the engine room replenished,
08:58 see fresh options arrive, and that's exactly what has happened. Alexis McAllister, Dominic
09:04 Subbot, Sly, both of them looking good so far. Otorio Endo, a left-field one certainly,
09:10 but Liverpool have gone out and decided they needed a defensive midfielder in, they needed
09:15 an experienced head. Jürgen Klopp highly rates the Japan captain, so yeah, it's a left-field
09:27 one, but it might just pull off. I don't think a few years ago anyone expected Liverpool
09:31 to sign 35-year-old Gary McAllister, but that certainly pays off for them. Obviously, Ryan
09:35 Gravenberch is one who didn't work out at Bayern Munich last season, but he's highly
09:42 rated at Ajax. Just to get him moved to Bayern Munich alone speaks volumes, really. But yeah,
09:50 I think midfield definitely looks strong there. Obviously, the strike force have built on
09:54 the business of January to get Gakpo in. They haven't got Firmino anymore, of course, but
10:01 probably got plenty of strength there. It's just centre-back where some would say they
10:06 look one option short. Obviously, Virgil van Dijk suspended, he's going to be back, but
10:12 Ibrahimovic is injured now. He's had niggles in the past, I've spoken to you, Charles,
10:18 I just think that he can't do anything about it, really. I think it's just the size and
10:22 his frame that he will pick up niggles, especially at a younger age. And Joe Gomez and Joel Matip,
10:28 there has been some scrutiny over them. Joel Matip entered the last year of his contract
10:33 and Joe Gomez, since he recovered from that bad injury a couple of years ago, maybe hasn't
10:38 hit the heights that he's capable of consistently. He's had some good games, but he's also been
10:45 well under what he would expect of himself. So, there probably are one short there and
10:51 that might potentially be the time for it. But no, at the start of the season, he probably
10:55 hasn't been at the best, but seven points from three games, a lot of fans have taken
11:01 that given the start of the pass. And yes, they're probably only going to get better,
11:06 to be honest with you, because as I say, being a real revolution, really, you've got to say
11:11 the amount of players that have left and who've been there for years and passed success and
11:15 joined the club. And yes, I think top four is the minimum that the Poole will be aiming
11:21 for this season, but it has to be first and foremost the primary aim as well, because
11:25 they can't afford to be out of the Champions League too long. It's just more so for the
11:30 finances that come with it and then attracting the top players as well.
11:34 And Will, just looking at the transfer window as a whole, who do you think will prove to
11:40 be the best signing? Obviously, it's been a crazy window. We spoke earlier on our morning
11:45 show of how many have gone to Saudi Arabia. It's just a topic that keeps popping up. But
11:50 in terms of just world football, has anyone stood out to you? We've seen James Madison
11:55 and Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham as well. They could all prove really good signings.
12:00 Has anyone caught your eye?
12:01 Yes, Bellingham started well, hasn't he? Real Madrid, unbelievable generational talent,
12:07 isn't he? A lot of people, Spanish Harry Kane a little bit for going to Bayern Munich. I
12:14 think it's a brave move for him, to be honest, getting himself out of the comfort zone and
12:17 going to, ultimately, if he goes and wins the Champions League there, then he'll be
12:23 a Bayern Munich legend forever. He's still trying to fill the boot of Lewandowski, who
12:29 left. He's still trying to fill it. If he can do that, then he'll prove really that he's a
12:37 top world-class player, like a lot of people say he is. But there obviously are some doubts,
12:42 as he's never won anything. Will he still get that if he just wins the Bundesliga? Because
12:47 Bayern Munich have done it 11 in a row now. I quite like that move, to be honest with you.
12:54 I'd probably say that one off the top of my head is the one that I'm looking forward to seeing.
13:03 Obviously, that's an abroad move, perhaps looking at some of those competitors for that
13:12 top four spot, or even top five as it might be this season. Of course, the Champions League
13:16 could get expanded in terms of who qualifies for it. There's a lot of teams in and about that
13:22 place. You look at Newcastle, you look at Aston Villa, you look at Brighton, who've just brought
13:25 in Antsu Fati. There's a lot of teams who are strengthening around Liverpool as well, so that
13:30 could prove a lot of competition for them. Yes, definitely. It's just getting more and
13:37 more competitive, isn't it? The Premier League, you think it was the old top four, and then it's
13:42 gone to the top six. Now, as you say, Newcastle are in there, Aston Villa, Brighton. It's almost
13:52 unfathomable to think the players don't want to play in the Premier League and they want to go to
13:55 Saudi Arabia. Because, as you say, West Ham have started off well and they look like they've
13:59 really invested that Declan Rice money well, doesn't it? Aston Villa as well,
14:07 starts the season and they've still got likes of Buente and Ramsey out injured as well, which
14:11 is crazy to think about, really. Obviously, Liverpool play them on Sunday, probably a good
14:17 time to play them as well. But, I mean, Barman City, you couldn't be confident of anyone finishing
14:25 the top four, I don't think, this season. Chelsea, how are they going to develop? Man United,
14:31 what can Eric Tenha do after the first season against Newcastle as well? You can't write them
14:37 off, can you, at all whatsoever? Because they might have upset the odds last season, but Eddie
14:42 Howe deserves immense credit and he certainly won't be resting on his laurels. I think right
14:47 around one season in the Champions League, he won't be kicking on. So, if you wanted me to give
14:54 a prediction now, I honestly genuinely couldn't tell you. I think it's going to be a really
14:57 exciting race. If anyone can keep a pace with Man City, then I'll be blown away, to be honest with you.
15:04 And, Will, just to finish off, who stands out as a club that's maybe had a bit of a worrying
15:11 window for you? Obviously, you've covered Everton, they've lost a few names, they've not really
15:16 recruited as brightly until very late in the window. Wolves, especially my club as well.
15:22 Some clubs down there, they've really not had the best windows and fans aren't going to be
15:27 too happy. Is there anyone who stands out? Yeah, I think you're right. Everton hasn't been the
15:32 best so far, but it could be. And Wolves as well, obviously two clubs with financial struggles.
15:38 Palace, maybe. They've brought in Lehmann, didn't they, from Bournemouth, who seems to settle in
15:45 well. But losing Zaha has a massive blow and it'll be interesting to see how before Ruid
15:52 Hodgson arrived, he were in a relegation battle. It'll be interesting to see what he can do with
15:57 the resources there. Yeah, Palace have surprised me. I always think Palace have got the capabilities
16:05 to kick on a little bit, but it seems like, I don't know what's going on with the club, but
16:11 they haven't probably spent a massive amount of money yet. They've got a massive amount of money.
16:16 I know one of the part owners has just bought the Washington Commanders, I think, for £6bn. I think
16:24 that was Josh Harris, another one there. David Blitz, who's involved as well. So maybe they
16:28 haven't got the funds, I don't know. But yeah, I think those two for me are probably, as you say,
16:35 Wolves, Everton, maybe Palace, a little bit underwhelming, but maybe Ruid Hodgson's happy
16:40 with what he's got. But yeah, as we speak now, there's still eight hours to go probably, so
16:45 could still be a lot of change, yes.
16:46 Brilliant, thanks Will. In our green room, we now have Charlie Haffenden of
16:52 Birmingham World to bring in, so we'll get him in here.
16:55 Cheers, Will. Thanks very much, mate.
16:58 No worries. Speak to you later.
17:00 Have a good day, mate. See you.
17:01 Bye.
17:01 Bye, bye.
17:02 Afternoon, Charlie. How are we?
17:06 I'm good, are you?
17:07 Yeah, not bad, not bad. I mean, before we get into your job, your role at Birmingham World,
17:12 I think we should talk about Brighton. Because you've just made a brilliant loan signing at
17:18 Antew Fatty, and you've also just been drawn in quite the group in the Europa League. So tell us
17:24 about all that, Charlie.
17:25 Yeah, Europa League, we've got Ajax, Marseille and Athens, three very exciting away trips in
17:31 Europe, our first ever European campaign, can't wait for that. As you'll kind of see behind me
17:35 if I move my chair. There you go, got the Brighton logos behind me. But I do cover Wolves, Villa,
17:41 Birmingham and West Brom for my job. And well, all four clubs have been keeping me very busy today,
17:46 to say the least. I think we've clocked in about 15 stories already. It's only 3pm. So
17:51 lots to do, lots done so far. Very exciting time so far for those clubs.
17:57 Yeah, Charlie, let's start in the Premier League and start with Wolves. I do like the order you
18:03 put those clubs in there, by the way. Let's start with Wolves. It's been a very strange window,
18:09 obviously, losing the manager, bringing in Gary O'Neill, a lot of concerns with the ownership.
18:16 Geoff, she releases a letter saying we can't spend. I'll tell you, he's now in dust and come
18:22 the final couple of days, they've made three, if not four, if not five new additions, which is
18:28 absolutely crazy. What's your take on it all? Because does it seem a bit desperate to you? Or
18:34 is it getting to the point where they've got rid of Nunes now, as well as Neves, the club captain?
18:40 It's been a whirlwind. What's your take as a neutral covering Wolves this summer?
18:47 I think it does come across as a little bit last minute. I say a little bit, a lot a bit last
18:51 minute. Having said, there wasn't going to be any more transfers made across the whole summer.
18:56 I see that change with Mateus Nunes going, those funds coming in. And they're not going
19:00 overboard. It's not like they're spending more than what they've brought in from Nunes. But
19:04 the impression we all got from the letter and from the financial accounts was even if they did sell
19:08 something like a Nunes, they wouldn't be able to spend big. And they're trying to, you know,
19:13 Che Adams is actually falling through. As you probably don't even notice that as you've been
19:17 live on air. I don't know if you've seen that. Southampton have pulled the plug on that. But
19:23 Wolves are willing to pay 15 million as an option to buy on the loan. I suppose that shows they
19:28 can't spend the money immediately that 15 million. They try to do the same for a Slen Tana forward,
19:33 Boulay-Dier as well as called plenty of goals and Serie A and Ligo before that. So quite a lot of
19:39 desperation. I think you can tell the funds still aren't really there. I think you got a feel for
19:43 Julen Lopetegui though, he's probably sat there thinking, where was all of this when I was here?
19:47 Why couldn't we sell other key players and then have those funds? So no, frustrating one, I think
19:54 for Lopetegui. Wolves fans, I'm sure you're feeling a little bit excited, Charles, especially
19:59 about the South American edition. He's a Brighton fan. I know all too well that if you sign someone
20:04 from Club Libertad in Paraguay, it tends to work out. Julio Ancizo being the man, of course,
20:10 did rip things up at Moliney the other week. Whether or not your new signing will be just like
20:15 him, I'm not too sure. But the pedigree is definitely there. And South American seems to
20:19 be doing a great job in the Premier League at the moment. Yeah, it's been an interesting window.
20:24 So far for Wolves, I mean, I think interesting is quite an understatement. It's been quite a
20:28 whirlwind window so far for Wolves. We look at Villa, of course, fresh from their progression
20:32 in the Europa League, beating Hibs 8-0 on aggregate. Charlie, I know you were there
20:37 for both of those occasions. They've had quite the window as well. They've brought in a lot of
20:42 new players, trying to strengthen in order to compete on all these four fronts. What do you
20:46 think has been the most impressive part of their window? I think it's been very well-rounded,
20:51 to be fair. They've had to sign players in key positions, add a bit of squad depth. They've lost
20:57 players to injuries as well, which has meant that they've had to not rush things too much,
21:01 but definitely bring in signings they weren't expecting to before. Nicolo Zaniolo was always
21:05 a target, potentially, but probably not in this window. But then Emi Buendia getting a serious
21:11 knee injury meant that Villa went in for him. But that on a loan signing is a great bit of business,
21:15 means they don't have to pay too much up front. Clomar Longley has just come in as well on another
21:20 loan deal after Tyrone Mings was injured. It took about a week or two after Ming's injury to bring
21:25 him in. But I think that's a pretty decent signing. I know he didn't do brilliantly at Tottenham,
21:30 but the fact he's got that European experience and he's probably expecting to be a bit more of
21:34 a rotation option rather than the starter every single week. I think that works well.
21:38 Obviously, you go to Pau Torres, a European standard centre-back, brilliant assist last
21:44 night against Hibbs. I know it's only Hibbs, but an amazing through ball nonetheless, something that
21:48 would split any defence in the world, I'd argue. Moussa Diaby started really well, seems to have
21:53 settled himself very quickly. Uri Tielemans, actually his first start last night. He hadn't
21:58 started for Villa before then, but looks very assured in midfield and is bound to get some
22:02 more minutes, especially if any other injuries come up. I believe I've gone through them all
22:06 there. Quite shrewd business in every case, experience, while also keeping the ages down
22:12 and the oldest player there being Longley at 28. So I think very impressive from Villa.
22:17 It'd be interesting to see, though, whether we see Philippe Coutinho leave today,
22:22 because he was starting to get into good form and obviously a major superstar globally.
22:25 Yeah, it's only right that we drop down into the Championship for the other two teams that you
22:31 cover. Let's start with Birmingham City. I mean, nine signings. Is there any more than that? Am I
22:37 corrected there? There was nine. There was nine, now there's 12.
22:42 Okay, 12 signings.
22:44 Probably the most in the Championship.
22:48 It's seemingly worked, though, hasn't it, so far? They've started the season fantastically well.
22:56 What are your takes on that? Obviously, it's been a great summer for them, very positive news with
23:03 Tom Brady being introduced as well. There's a lot of positivity going on at Blues and it maybe
23:09 contrasts for the last few years at the club as well, which is really good for Blues fans.
23:14 Definitely, and the results at the start of the season as well have created so much excitement.
23:19 Three wins and a draw in the top three of the Championship. I don't think any Blues
23:23 fans would have predicted that, even after all the signings that they've made. Very exciting ones.
23:28 Dion Sanderson, I think, was very key, getting him on the permanent after initial loan deal.
23:32 They've shored up in defence again. Ethan Laird, £850,000, maybe even £750,000 from Manchester
23:39 United. Probably one of the best right-backs in the whole division, based off early signs and
23:44 based off previous loan deals. So, that's very impressive. Lee Buchanan at left-back as well,
23:48 about a million from Werder Bremen. Christian Bielik, another loanee, made permanent.
23:53 I can go on and on here. Cody Drahmer, signed today from Leeds United on loan. Ethan Laird's
23:59 been injured at right-back, so it means that they've got a bit more depth there. In the wing
24:04 and attacking positions, Tyler Roberts, another one from Leeds. Only £300,000 or £400,000, which
24:10 is a low-risk signing for that fee. Koji Miyoshi from Royal Antwerp on a free. Very exciting
24:15 already, a Japan international. Got plenty of skill and creative ability. Keshie Anderson,
24:21 one that was a bit of a flop at Blackpool, but seems to have kicked his career back into fashion
24:26 again. He's been pretty impressive in his early starts. Emmanuel Eiwu, another loan transfer,
24:33 an option to buy from Cremonese. Ed Sari B, centre-back, who's only 22, can play really
24:39 anywhere across the back line. So, some good depth. And then finally, Jay Stansfield from Fulham. I
24:44 think a lot of people heard about him because of his father passing away a while ago and him scoring
24:49 for Exeter City. It's a very romantic story, that one. He came in and within 48 hours of signing
24:54 on loan from Fulham, scored the winner against Plymouth Argyle last week. So, yeah, long list
24:59 there from Birmingham. But the main underlying message is a complete rebuild. They're not signing
25:05 oldies, they're signing some pretty young, exciting players. Their style has changed from long ball
25:12 to a bit more of a counter-attacking style, running at defenders. And actually, I did forget
25:17 one signing there. Kevin Long, he's the only oldie that's come in, 33 years of age. He was there on
25:23 a six-month deal last season, coming permanently and starting every single game as centre-back.
25:29 So, yeah, I'll catch my breath now. It's a long list.
25:31 You've done very well to get all of those in, Charlie. I'll give you that. That's impressive
25:34 because that's a lot of signings at Birmingham. But as Charles rightly says, they've made quite
25:39 the start of the season and after all the issues they've had, and things at the stadium,
25:44 and the ownership, things are looking a bit brighter for the Blues, it's fair to say.
25:48 Finally, if we go on to West Brom and Jalopion, of course, the final club that you cover, Charlie,
25:54 tell us about what they've been up to this summer.
25:57 Yeah, it's been a bit of a quieter one for West Brom, thank God, because otherwise I'd have way
26:01 too much to do. There's been a couple of signings in attacking positions, one of them being one I
26:06 know very well, Jeremy Sarmiento on loan from Brighton. He's an Ecuadorian winger,
26:12 can kind of play anywhere, to be fair, across attacking the field or the forward positions.
26:16 Only 21, very exciting. He was kind of bridging into the starting 11 at times under the deserby,
26:22 but then injuries caught up with him and Cizzo improved, Bonanotte, Jalopedra was signed. So,
26:28 it did make sense for him to be loaned out. He got his first goal the other day for West Brom,
26:33 after I just recorded the video that week with Charles actually saying that he was going to be
26:36 a superstar for them. I think he'll do well. Josh Madger from Bordeaux, he's not really played any
26:42 games yet, but he's had experience in England and abroad as well. A goalscorer, someone who should
26:48 hopefully sort out their issues up top. But other than that, they've not really done a great deal.
26:53 It's more kind of been outgoings. Dara O'Shea, the club captain, gone to Burnley.
26:57 Jake Livermore, David Button, Tom Rodditch, Carlin Grant, Taylor Garden, Hickman have all
27:02 departed, most of those on loans or freeze. So, I think fans will be pretty desperate for something
27:08 to happen in the last hours of deadline day. Whether or not it happens, though, awaits to be seen.
27:15 And Charlie, let's just move on now to just general transfer topics. Who do you think has
27:22 been the best signing in this entire summer window? I would have said like James Madison,
27:29 to be honest, for £30 million or so for Tottenham. But I mean, he's not even played any games yet.
27:35 But on paper and excitement levels, I'm very biased here. I think it might well be Anssu Fati.
27:42 Just the fact that he is, I know he's had his injury issues over the last year or so,
27:47 and it's not quite hit the heights that the likes of Vinicius Junior and Co have that were
27:51 likened to him. But one of the best young players in the world, still just 20, has loads of trophies
27:57 to his name already, a La Liga, Copa del Rey, a Nations League. I think he's averaged something
28:03 like 0.8 goal involvements per 90 at Barcelona. So, it's not like he's really fallen off. He's
28:08 still a player who's got great ability. Just imagine him in a deserby side that's creating
28:13 so many chances, creates lots from wide positions, cutting in. He's going to be that perfect inside
28:18 forward or attacking midfielder. So, I'm so excited. I can't quite believe he's signed for
28:23 Brighton. That's just mental to me. That's the ball that comes for Europe, mate. Honestly,
28:28 it's crazy. It takes a while to get used to. But you do start signing these players and we've all
28:34 seen how the wolves were in Europe and the names that come in and you're just like,
28:39 "Hold on a minute. This is my club. This is not what I'm used to." But yeah, it's great to see.
28:45 And obviously, he did turn down wolves earlier on in the summer, which is fair because they're
28:51 not in Europe and he's clearly a European quality player. He wants to be playing European football
28:58 and he's got the talent to do so. So, yeah, I mean, as you said earlier, when Brighton came
29:04 to Molineux, they absolutely ran right on the counter and just looked so deadly going forward.
29:09 If you add Antsu Fati to that, yeah, it's something to think of. I think, yeah,
29:15 Brighton are in for a very good season. I can definitely say that.
29:19 Dan, do you want to add?
29:21 I was going to say, Troy, we asked Will some of these questions as well before you came on
29:26 about teams who have had really good and bad windows and which transfers have also stood out
29:31 to you as well. So, if you could pick any individual transfer that stood out to you
29:35 and then also have a look at any team that you think has done the best business overall,
29:39 let us know what you think.
29:40 My brain is just completely littered with all the clubs.
29:43 It's probably Fried. I do apologise.
29:45 It is rather Fried. You got me on the spot there. I think Everton, in terms of a poor window,
29:51 I'd probably go for them and the fact they're rock bottom of the Premier League, if I'm not
29:55 mistaken, and just looking really poor. Even under Sean Dye, who's a really good, experienced
30:00 manager, can't seem to get them firing. I know they've just brought in Beto, that striker from
30:04 Serie A. He scored, I believe, on his debut just within a day or two of signing for them, but
30:11 is he going to be enough? Someone like Dominic Albert-Lewin, I know it's not a transfer,
30:15 but constantly getting injured all the time. They need probably more than one new addition up top.
30:20 Alex Iwobi's off to Fulham. They're losing another wide player there. I know he's not quite hit
30:25 the heights people expected after he signed for Arsenal a few years back, but I think him going
30:29 is not going to help. I'm pretty disappointed as an Oslend Everson fan, to be fair. Wolves,
30:35 if they hadn't done business in the last few days, I think they'd probably be even further below
30:41 Everton. Once again, though, these are players that aren't really proven. They're more youngsters.
30:46 Are there more future options? I'm not too sure. It can't be helped with financial fair play,
30:51 but I think it's been pretty poor for Wolves. Charles, are you a bit worried after the business,
30:56 or are you a little bit more revived? Obviously, the late business is a bit more pleasing to see.
31:03 If you were going to continue the season as we were, but minus Nunes because of the last 24 hours,
31:20 then there would be concern there, yes. I think three new additions in the core of the team,
31:28 I think Tommy Doyle will be exciting to watch. You would rather have a player who's maybe a bit
31:34 lesser in quality. Nunes didn't have the best spells, but he has got the quality there. You'd
31:39 probably rather drop a bit of quality and actually have a player that wants to be involved at the
31:43 club and really wants to try and have an impressive loan spell. So, hopefully that will go well.
31:48 Obviously, they say never fall in love with a lone player. So, hopefully that doesn't come
31:53 true. Maybe we go on to make it permanent, you never know. But City are probably in the driving
31:59 seat with that one. You've touched on Everton and Wolves there and a worrying window. Which
32:05 club do you think has maybe had the best window? Obviously, Birmingham City, you probably can't
32:09 look past them with the signings they've made and the start they've made to the season as well.
32:14 Surely they have to be in the discussion. I think in terms of Championship, I wouldn't really go for
32:19 anyone else other than Birmingham City. I think most rival fans would even agree with that. Just
32:23 the business they've done, the fact they've hit the ground running as well and they've shored up
32:27 in the positions they've needed to. And they've not made any panic buys, they've not spent big,
32:31 they've actually got a negative net spend if I'm not mistaken, because of selling Jobe Bellingham,
32:38 his brother, and of course, Tahith Chong going to Luton as well meant that all the funds were there,
32:43 lots of free deals, loads of options to buy, very effective business by John Eustace's team.
32:49 But in the Premier League, I think West Ham, they look like they're in a really poor window,
32:54 but they've spent the Declan Rice money really well in midfield. James Ward-Prowse has made a
32:59 really good impact already, Alvarez as well, Kudu's coming in. Obviously, it was linked with
33:03 Brighton for a while, I really wanted him. So I think that business is really impressive. Chelsea,
33:09 spending a huge amount of money again, getting Caicedo, Laverie in midfield, got Fernandes
33:14 already from last winter. That's probably going to be the one of the best, it's the best midfield
33:18 on paper, you could argue in the Premier League. Arsenal, getting Rice, getting Havertz, Timber,
33:24 they've definitely added some squad depth. And Villa, as we mentioned earlier, I think
33:28 from five deals, efficiency wise, I think they've done really well as well. So lots of strong
33:34 windows, and lots of others probably going under the radar as well that I've not mentioned.
33:38 Sorry, I'm just reading Twitter here and just seeing some of the deals that are currently
33:41 happening in the Championship. A couple of concerns in Newcastle actually,
33:45 outgoings, Isaac Hayden's deal to Sheffield Wednesday fell through,
33:50 and now supposedly he's on the way to Standard Liège in Belgium. But Jeff Hendrick is currently
33:59 also at Sheffield Wednesday and his deal apparently is still on. So that's an interesting one. And
34:03 then look at Newcastle's neighbour, Sunderland, who are supposedly going to be selling Ross Stewart
34:08 to Southampton, passed his medical. But there's reports coming out now that there might be an
34:13 issue with that deal, but there's not a lot more else to say on that one. So for any Sunderland
34:16 fans who might be watching, watch this space. I mean, it might just be absolutely nothing at all,
34:23 but from what I'm reading on Twitter, there's some sort of an issue despite passing the medical. So
34:28 who knows? But yeah, it's been an interesting window, Charlie, before we let you go, given
34:34 that it ends in a matter of hours now. How do you see the season shaping up in the top flight?
34:40 In the top flight? I think Manchester City are probably going to run away with it again,
34:46 unfortunately, as much as I want other teams to be in the mix. Liverpool are looking...I
34:51 think that win against Newcastle, to be fair, if they keep up the salad, that's solidified
34:57 their mentality again. They didn't really have that last season, but to go down to 10 men,
35:01 not play at their best and still get a win away at a team like Newcastle doing so well.
35:06 I think that in my head anyway, moves them up to be more of a title challenger again.
35:11 Arsenal are going to be in the mix. Chelsea with their squad should be really. The likes of Villa,
35:17 Brighton, Newcastle, I'd be interested to see who finishes the highest out of those lot.
35:20 Obviously having the added fixture congestion with the European fixtures. Who will it hit most?
35:27 Probably Brighton. They've got depth in numbers, but lots of youngsters and haven't got the
35:33 experience. If you look at Newcastle, you've got a lot more experienced players. The same can be
35:36 said about Villa. Unai Emery's at the helm. He's got all of that experience in Europe. I think that
35:41 battle is probably going to be the most interesting from my perspective, probably from yours as well,
35:46 Daniel, with your club. Then seeing how the relegation fight unfolds as well. Wolves,
35:53 will they be in there? Everton, Nottingham Forest, these a little bit more established
35:57 teams now in the Premier League could be in trouble. Luton, surely they're not going to
36:01 stay up, are they? Sheffield United, the same story. But Burnley, a bit more exciting under
36:07 Vincent Kompany. I think, to be honest, the whole division is one of the most competitive that we've
36:12 seen in a long time. The same can be said for the Championship. So, very excited to see what comes.
36:16 Brilliant. Well, thanks for joining us, Charlie. Hopefully you don't have too much of a late night,
36:22 but I'm sure you probably will. It will probably be about midnight, yeah, unfortunately. West Brom,
36:27 they left it until about 1am to do all their deals in January. Yeah, well, you've got till
36:34 about January to have a rest and do it all again. And then summer and next year as well.
36:39 Oh, the joy of it all. Just imagine how Fabrizio Romano is feeling right now. I don't think he's
36:46 had any sleep in about a week. I can't imagine how heavy his screen time is at the moment.
36:52 On his phone.
36:53 Yeah, Fabrizio, if you are watching, which I don't think you are, because you're probably too busy.
36:58 Get some rest. Yeah.
37:01 Well, yeah, Charlie, enjoy. Enjoy anyway. And any Birmingham world news, obviously the clubs,
37:07 Wolves, Villa, Baggies and Blues. Follow Charlie on social media and stay up to date with any
37:14 deadline day deals. But thanks, Charlie. We'll take care, mate. See you later.
37:17 All right. See you later.
37:20 Dan, another successful deadline day.
37:23 There we have it. Obviously, the window has still got a few hours to run.
37:28 Plenty of things will probably happen in that time whilst we go off air. But check back again
37:33 next week and we'll probably have a bit of a review of the window and what happened in these
37:36 last few hours. But it's been an interesting day. Lots going on as there usually is. But as we said
37:41 before, we're not really sure why clubs leave it so late on to their business. It always baffles
37:46 me a little bit how this became a thing, the transfer deadline day, and how it sort of,
37:52 you know, became sort of very commercialised and very television orientated because clubs do leave
37:59 their deals to the last minute. But realistically, they shouldn't and they should just get everything
38:03 done really early. And this shouldn't be a thing. But it is. And so here we are. But regardless,
38:07 it's been another interesting day. And yeah, I think that's about it. So thank you to everyone
38:13 who's been watching. As I say, we'll have the review next week on local TV sports. So do tune
38:18 in and watch some of that. But until then, we will see you very soon.
