Born in Forton Road and on leaving the RM in 1953 remained living and working in Gosport, he worked within the Co-op at San Diego Road and later at Clayhall; he had three stints as a Provincial bus company conductor and one with Hants and Dorset buses. He has been a Salvationist of the Gosport Corps for many years as bandsman and youth leader
