00:00 I'm JD Durkin reporting from the New York Stock Exchange. Here's a look at what we are watching
00:04 on the street today. Wall Street is reacting to the weekly jobless report that came out earlier
00:08 this morning. 228,000 Americans filed for unemployment last week, marking the lowest
00:15 level we've seen in four weeks, suggesting that demand for workers is still healthy. And on
00:21 Friday, the monthly jobs report will come out. That'll tell us how many positions were added
00:25 across the U.S. economy in the month of August. Economists are largely expecting the economy to
00:30 have added 170,000 jobs this month, a slight slowdown from the previous month, but still
00:36 exactly what the Federal Reserve is hoping to see. The Fed tends to pay very close attention
00:41 to these jobs numbers when making their decision on whether or not to hike interest rates. And as
00:46 travel demand continues to skyrocket, American Airlines may find itself in a bit of a bind.
00:52 Flight attendants for American are threatening to strike if the company does not agree to quote
00:56 "reasonable" contract terms. According to the Association of Professional Flight Attendants,
01:02 more than 99 percent of Americans flight attendants voted in favor of authorizing the strike. The
01:08 AFPA covers more than 26,000 American Airlines flight attendants. Just last week, Pilots for
01:14 American Airlines approved a new contract that calls for $9.6 billion in pay and benefit increases
01:21 over the next four years. However, American is not the only major carrier feeling a bit of pressure.
01:27 Pilots for Southwest Airlines and flight attendants for United have pickets planned for Thursday,
01:32 as they also push for new contracts. That'll do it for your daily briefing.
01:36 From the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, I'm J.D. Durkin with The Street.
