Coming in North America with a Bold Look and Optional AWD. 8th Generation, New Hyundai Sonata 2024

The all-paw is only available on trims with the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine, which also excludes the AWD hybrid.

Hyundai revealed the radically updated 2024 Sonata earlier this year, but we now have information on the version available in North America. Not surprisingly, there isn't much difference between markets, except for one important feature. Buyers in this side of the forest can opt for all-wheel drive.

This is the first all-claw setup installed on the Sonata, and it's finally the solution to the Sonata AWD spy photos we took a long time ago. The automaker's HTRAC (Hyundai TRACtion) system isn't much different from those found on Hyundai SUVs, actively distributing power to the front or rear as needed. Buyers in colder climates will likely appreciate the all-wheel drive clutch, but those hoping for a sporty Sonata N Line AWD will be disappointed. In this regard, hybrid shoppers will also miss this opportunity. At least for now, AWD is only available with the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine.

To refresh your memory, Hyundai's extensive Sonata update includes an all-new front clip with slim headlights and lots of symmetry between the grille and corner vents. There's more symmetry at the rear, with new taillights with an H motif mounted above the redesigned lower dash. Once inside, you'll find an updated cockpit with a pair of 12.3-inch screens (one for the driver and one for the infotainment system) combined behind a single curved screen. Drivers also have a head-up display at their disposal, and for audiophiles, Hyundai has tweaked the 12-speaker Bose sound system.

The 2024 Sonata is available with three engine options for North America. We have already mentioned the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine in the standard sedan. The Sonata N Line is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine and combines a hybrid, 2.0-liter engine with a single electric motor. Hyundai's official press release does not mention the changes in these engines, nor does it include specific horsepower values. We can say that the 2023 N Line produces 290 hp, while the hybrid produces a total of 192 hp. The standard Sonata currently available with AWD is 191 hp.

Similarly, the pricing of the new model is not yet available. The base price of the 2023 Sonata SE is $26,565; The Sonata Hybrid Blue starts at $29,565, and the 2023 N Line starts at $35,940. Prices include a $1,115 destination fee, and it's safe to assume that 2024 will bring at least minor increases to those numbers.

We expect pricing to be announced close to the 2024 Hyundai Sonata's launch date later this year.
