American Airlines has been fined $4.1 million by the US Department of Transportation for tarmac delays on 43 flights between 2018 and 2021. The airline is accused of holding passengers on planes for excessive time. American Airlines claims the delays were due to weather events and has invested in technology to improve flight handling in severe weather. They will pay $2.05 million to the government and the other half in passenger compensation.
