White House Says the Administration is "Prepared for the Fall" When it Comes to Combatting COVID

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Monday that the administration is "prepared for the Fall" when it comes to dealing with a rise in COVID-19 infections.

00:00 What I can say is that we are prepared for the fall.

00:03 We believe that we're prepared for the fall.

00:04 We believe that we are in a better position

00:07 than we've ever been to combat COVID-19.

00:09 And that's because of the work that the President has done.

00:12 You heard from FDA. You heard from CDC --

00:15 pardon me -- who have said that there's going to be a new vaccine

00:17 that's going to be available mid-September.

00:21 And, look, because of the work that this administration

00:23 has done with the leadership of this President,

00:26 we have been able to put together a comprehensive way

00:29 to deal with this pandemic, to deal with COVID-19.

00:32 And we have put forth multiple tools to do that.

00:34 And the vaccine, clearly, is one of that.

00:36 When it comes to informing the American people

00:39 about these vaccines, about the different tools

00:41 that this President and this administration has put forward,

00:44 we have really put informing Americans as a priority.

00:49 And so we'll continue to do that.

00:51 We know that COVID-19 vaccinations

00:55 are the safest to protect --

00:56 to protection for avoiding hospitalization,

00:58 long-term health outcomes, and death.

01:00 And that is why we are going to continue to encourage Americans

01:04 to stay up-to-date on their vaccines.

01:06 We believe we are in the strongest position yet --

01:09 in the strongest position yet -- to deal with COVID-19,

01:11 as I've said multiple times at this point.

01:14 And, you know, anything that we might see in the fall

01:22 or in the winter.

01:23 And that's because safe and updated vaccines

01:26 that will be available in mid-September.

01:28 Widely available at-home COVID tests, right?

01:30 I talked about the different tools

01:32 that this administration has been able to put forward.

01:35 Widely available effective treatments,

01:37 which can reduce the risk of severe illness,

01:39 hospitalizations, and death.

01:41 And we are also going to encourage --

01:43 we are going to encourage Americans

01:44 to get their updated COVID-19 vaccine,

01:47 in addition to their annual flu shot --

01:49 let's not forget, that is important for Americans to get --

01:52 and an RSV immunization for people over 60 and for infants.

01:57 That is something that we're going to continue

01:59 to make very clear to Americans across the country.

02:03 As it relates to any uptick, nationally,

02:05 while the CDC is reporting an increase in infections

02:08 and hospital admissions overall remains low.

02:13 But again, we believe that we are in a good position,

02:16 in the strongest position that we have been

02:19 in the past three years or so,

02:21 to deal with COVID-19.
