Trump Jan. 6 Trial Scheduled for March 4

Judge Tanya S. Chutkan has scheduled a federal trial against former President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., for March 4, 2024, just one day before the Republican Super Tuesday primary.

00:07 Lawyers for the former president were back in a D.C. courtroom this morning before federal

00:11 Judge Tanya Chutkin.

00:13 The trial dates each had proposed were dramatically different.

00:17 Special counsel Jack Smith submitted a date right after the first of the year on January

00:22 2nd, while Trump's team asked for April of 2026.

00:26 After hearing arguments from both sides today, the judge rejected the January trial date

00:31 suggested by the prosecutors, but she also refused to delay the trial for two years,

00:36 as requested by Trump's defense team.

00:38 In the end, Judge Chutkin decided Trump's trial will begin on March 4th, 2024.

00:44 That's the day before the Super Tuesday primary.

00:47 The judge said the selection of the March date for the trial is not influenced by the

00:51 defendant's "personal or professional obligations."

00:55 Meanwhile, federal prosecutors said today that they've turned over almost all of the

00:59 discovery material in the special counsel's election subversion case against the former

01:03 president.

01:04 That material amounts to nearly 12.8 million pages of evidence.
