Launceston Airport is one of the three fastest growing airports in Australia so the opening of a new check in terminal could not have come at a better time. Video by Rod Thompson

00:00 This is incredibly exciting. It's another historic first for Launceston Airport.

00:07 And as you can see, this pretty well doubles the size of our check-in hall.

00:13 It's the first phase of a full redevelopment of our terminal.

00:18 Our next phase comes in December, and then the rest of the terminal over the next couple of years.

00:24 So it's a very exciting time for us.

00:27 So the terminal will actually open at 4.30 tomorrow morning.

00:31 And we'll all be here to make sure that everything runs smoothly.

00:35 So everything will be fully functional by tomorrow morning,

00:38 and there will be a new temporary pass-through to security.

00:43 And then that will enable us to start phase two of the development,

00:47 which will be the construction of the security screening point.

00:51 And that will open just before Christmas this year.

00:54 There's another phase of this development here,

00:58 which in late October, early November, will be the full installation of automatic bag drops.

01:06 So these check-in counters here are actually temporary.

01:09 And kiosks, so there will be 12 check-in kiosks,

01:12 so that travellers can come in, automatically check in,

01:16 put their baggage labels on their bags,

01:20 and then automatically drop their baggage as well.

01:23 There's also a service desk here,

01:26 just so that travellers who need additional service can still avail that facility.
