Lewis Hall signs for Newcastle United

Lewis Hall joins Newcastle United on a season-long loan, including an obligation to buy next summer based "performance-related criteria".

00:12 Now the term 'performance-related criteria' is used in a Newcastle United press release,

00:17 but we understand that as just a minor deal and Lewis Hall will become

00:22 a permanent Newcastle United player this time next year.

00:26 It becomes Newcastle's fifth summer signing, behind Jacuba Minter,

00:32 Sandro Tonari, Tino Liberamento and Harvey Barnes.

00:36 Now the difference between them four players is that Lewis Hall arrives

00:40 having supported Newcastle United as a boy.

00:43 His dad used to live in the North East before moving down South

00:47 and Lewis and his older brother Connor have become Newcastle fans with that.

00:53 So a nice moment for him and his family to play for his boyhood club.

00:58 But there's no room for sentiment these days in football.

01:03 But what we can see on that is Newcastle are signing a very exciting young full-back,

01:08 still only 18 years of age, made his breakthrough at Chelsea last season,

01:12 played 12 times, two of those were against Newcastle.

01:16 Now Lewis Hall actually made his debut at St James' Party on that Premier League fixture in November.

01:24 But Lewis Hall was one of the bright spots for Chelsea that day,

01:30 One moment I think sticks out a lot of Newcastle fans is that cross field ball

01:36 Excellent bit of vision, hopefully just a small insight into what Lewis Hall can offer.

01:43 And then in the reverse fixture down at Stamford Bridge as well,

01:46 provided lots of energy down that left-hand side,

01:49 put a couple of really good crosses in and was named Chelsea's Man of the Match.

01:54 So, yeah, 18 years of age, pace, power, sounds like an ideal Eddie Howe full-back.
