00:00 When we first meet your character Sims,

00:02 although we don't know much about him,

00:05 it's pretty clear that he is powerful

00:07 or a force to be reckoned with just from his demeanor.

00:11 And I was wondering, since we learn your backstory

00:14 as the series unfolds, I wonder from your perspective,

00:19 if you feel that the viewers will understand

00:21 your dedication to your position

00:25 and why you're so adamant on remaining in that role

00:30 for the Silo community.

00:33 - Well, yeah, I really hope and believe

00:36 that the viewers will connect and understand

00:40 my position as Sims, you know,

00:43 and why he's so committed and loyal

00:45 to doing the work of protecting the people of the Silo,

00:49 which essentially is also protecting his family.

00:52 And it's what he was taught, you know,

00:55 and what he was given, and given that type of responsibility

01:00 and actually like a vision for himself

01:05 and like with his father being who he was.

01:08 It really gives you insight into it

01:11 instead of just looking at this character as like,

01:13 oh, Sims is just somebody who's just willing

01:16 to do whatever it takes.

01:18 And it's just for the Silo because of he's just a follower.

01:21 It's more like he really believes in,

01:24 he's doing the right thing for people in the Silo.

01:28 So I love the dynamic of that.

01:30 And when I, you know, as I was reading the scripts

01:33 and looking at this project,

01:35 I was getting excited the more and more I read.

01:37 But when I got to that episode, I was like,

01:39 oh man, this is amazing.

01:41 Like this, because it really allows the viewer

01:44 to relate to it more.

01:46 And even if you don't agree, you still can relate.

01:48 - Right, and I like how you mentioned

01:51 that he believes he's in the good fight for the Silo.

01:56 So do you fully believe that with everything

01:59 that people in the Silo community hear

02:02 that he's on the right side of history

02:05 without any questions to himself?

02:08 Because, you know, sometimes we can't,

02:10 he wasn't very predictable

02:11 and we couldn't necessarily always tell

02:13 which way he was gonna go.

02:15 - Well, I think that is a beautiful question you asked

02:20 because it's like part of what I have

02:24 is that character is like, okay,

02:27 do I believe that everything I'm doing is right?

02:30 And that's something we may get to explore,

02:34 God willing, as we get to a second season

02:36 or a third season of Silo.

02:40 But at this moment, I believe, you know,

02:43 it's some internal things that he definitely experiences

02:47 that may be like, okay, I'm not making every right move,

02:50 but this is what I gotta do for the greater good.

02:53 I've been in that situation like where, you know,

02:57 honestly, just recently, it was a situation where,

02:59 you know, we just got a new mayor in Chicago,

03:02 Brandon Johnson, a young black man,

03:05 and he wasn't exactly what every,

03:08 I got a charter school in Chicago

03:10 and he was kind of opposing charter schools,

03:12 like in a certain way.

03:14 And I still felt that I needed to support him

03:18 because it was for a greater cause.

03:20 It wasn't just about my charter school.

03:23 And, you know, at one point some of our team was like,

03:26 man, this dude could close down your charter school,

03:28 you still gonna support him?

03:29 Well, it ain't just about my charter school,

03:31 what's gonna be better for the city of Chicago overall?

03:34 And that's some of the conflicts that I feel

03:37 Sims goes through, what's gonna be best for the Chicago?

03:41 You know, and sometimes he falls into like,

03:43 what's gonna be best for your family?

03:45 And that's not a bad thing, that's a great thing.

03:48 But when you in that type of leadership role,

03:50 sometimes you can't only think about your family,

03:53 which Sims obviously does.

03:56 So it's just a really great character to navigate.

03:59 And also me playing it is really different because

04:04 I'm on the like, you know,

04:07 I'm like on the side of a Malcolm X and, you know,

04:13 Fred Hampton.

04:13 - Happy go lucky.

04:15 - Yeah, but no, but not only that,

04:16 but I'm saying like, I'm not like believing in everything

04:20 that the government is pushing on us.

04:22 In fact, like I don't want us to accept all these things.

04:26 I feel like it's some things that we have to question

04:29 and we have to like challenge and find out for ourselves

04:33 and get the right people in government.

04:36 And that being said, to play this character

04:39 who's working for judicial,

04:41 which is essentially the government in the silo

04:43 is a different type of thing.

04:45 But like I said, his motivation is coming from really

04:48 about protecting and taking care of the people.

04:51 - No, yes, I love the layers that your character Sims had.

04:55 And I really enjoyed this series.

04:57 So I have to wrap up the interview, but blessings to you.
